I was a patient here recently. Contrary to some of these other reviews, the staff and medical professionals here do care about patients. I had my days where I was angry and felt they didn’t care or understand but people need to remember they are human beings like all of us patients. They deal with the professional end of things as well as trying to meet the needs of many different patients.Due to my disorders I had days I made my own stay as well as their jobs more difficult but not once did any of the staff seem to hold it against me. If I needed someone to talk to they were there. If I had questions about my medication they helped. Several nurses and techs there were so kind and attentive.Allison who is a PA is wonderful as a person and as a medical professional. DEB is a doctor who changed my outlook on life living with PTSD and she was a godsend for me. To my knowledge she has many many years under her belt working with PTSD patients. I nearly cried feeling the relief of finally sitting across the table from some who I could actually feel understood me as a person. FINALLY!The facility itself is small and after awhile things can feel claustrophobic at least for me. There’s not enough board games and other activities to pass the “down time” so to speak. I’m going to look into donating some but even still, that’s one area I think the hospital needs to improve on. Night meds could be given earlier, I didn’t like getting my sleep med 15-30 minutes before lights out since some of us would like to go to sleep early but can’t without meds.The food is neither great nor terrible. They hand out plenty of snacks through the day and the phones are open to use most of the day which is better than other hospitals I’ve been to.To conclude I have had a few tough moments in there and in the end I was able to recover from them quickly because of the staff, how they don’t hold grudges and they take time to talk to you like a fellow human being. Big props to DEB!!! Excellent doctor. My biggest complaint is she doesn’t do outpatient.Also there are two male nurses and both are great. Thank you all for putting up with me and hopefully I never have to see any of you again! Lol

This is the worst place to send someone for mental health. They release people in the same state of mind they went in there in. The case workers don’t care have tell them how many times the person done been there this there job to know. They just don’t care period when you telling them what type of state of mind the person in only thing they can say the person is fine right know. The most worthless place for anyone to go at. Have no type of resources to help people to get better. They just don’t care period!!!!!

This is the worst place to send anybody to receive treatment or help. My brother has been here multiple times and no help. Instead of evaluating the person mental health they try to get them out of there hospital as soon as possible. Due to not having income. East Carolina need a better treatment facility and staff.

Awful place. There are no meetings. They ask what your goals are and move to next person. Bad reputation known but governmental agencies do not investigate complaints. Health and human services would not check on the welfare of an elderly black woman that staff left hallucinating for days. The police are company police and won't help you. Ahoskie PD is not allowed to come on the property. They gave me someone else's meds by mistake and I couldn't get help from anyone. Once they send you here, you are fair game. No one will believe what they have done to you. You are no longer a human being to anyone, especially by anyone who CAN help and change things.Thanks for nothing Deborah S McCarty, RN Nurse Consultant, Acute Home Care, Licensure and Certification Section, NC DeptDof Health and Human Services. I hope Miss Kim's family sees this and knows someone tried to help her and you were too lazy and jaded to check in on her.

My experience there was wonderful! The staff was very friendly and they helped me cope with my mental illness. I recommend this place to anyone who needs help.
