List of Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group - Asheville's Reviews
We went for an initial appointment and decided not to go back. Dr. Payne was nice at first and then proceeded to talk quickly about treatment options without taking any pause to look at us or check if we had any questions. At one point I physically raised my hand to ask a question, like in a classroom, and he still didn’t take a break until I made a significant effort to verbally interrupt him. It felt like a monologue. We got the feeling that he’s been giving the same spiel to patients for decades and no longer cares if it makes sense or if people have questions. For medical care, you want to feel like your doctor sees you as a person and will listen to you. We decided not to proceed with any labs or treatments here. Billing also seems disorganized - we’ve received three separate bills for the single appointment. We’ve been happily receiving treatment at Carolinas Fertility Institute and we are SO happy with the doctors, nurses, and billing team there.
The staff is courteous and pleasant but this clinic does not have the best IVF outcomes for women 40+ years old compared to other clinics nationally and locally (check this website for outcomes data before you choose an IVF clinic sartcorsonline.com). We did several medicated IUI cycles with PREG and one round of IVF egg retrieval with ICSI. The Asheville office doesn't actually have a surgical suite so you have to drive 1.5 hours each way to their office in Greenville, SC for procedures. The lab that is needed to process semen was sometimes closed so we had to cancel one IUI cycle and drive to Spartanburg for another IUI procedure. Communication was pretty poor throughout the process, most of what I learned about what was happening was through internet research, we rarely spoke to or saw our doctor (most communication and all visits were conducted by the nursing staff). Shared decision making was absent from the process. We have not been happy with our care at PREG. Do your research and think twice about choosing this clinic for your fertility treatment.
Great experience
I am saddened to share that this place does not help veterans. Piedmont accepts my health insurance (Optum United Healthcare) and I have a referral from Optum approving me for IVF services but they will not accept me because they don’t deal with the Veteran Affairs. I had an appointment on Monday October 4, 2021 and they told me that Friday October 1, 2021. I had to cancelled that appointment which I waited for several weeks since they are pretty booked for the month. If this is how you treat veterans then I don’t know what else to say except please opt out of Optum United Healthcare so you don’t get a sour taste in you mouth when the next veteran mentions the VA or come see you for help!
While the staff is nice, and I'm sure these doctors help a lot of people if they're not questioned, McCoy is egotistical. His pride comes between him giving the best possible patient care.
I first have to say how much I love the nursing staff, IVF coordinator, and Dr. McCoy! They were an absolute joy to work with and made a stressful time in our lives a little less stressful! Not to mention their help to meet our goal of parenthood.Unfortunately this is where the accolades end. I struggled with the front office staff and billing, especially billing and I was sure to read all of the fine print! So keep that handy if you proceed with treatment here. My advice is to question everything and don’t give up.Praises to Doctor McCoy and his DaVinci surgery he preformed he was able to “salvage” my remaining tube to the point beyond belief my husband and I conceived naturally (Dr. McCoy is amazing 110% recommend)!!Because of this miracle we did not have to finish our treatment and skipped implantation. We were told we would be receiving a fairly large refund and to be sure to call back. Months later we receive a bill. I called and called the office with little help. Finally I received a call back and went over my bill which they explained was for embryo storage because I was 11 days past their 6 month holding fee but they didn’t want to send them to storage and bring them back for implantation which I understand to a point. BUT I have contacted them asking where our embryos are because the storage Facility they typically send them to said they do not have our embryos and I have yet to get a response. The other frustrating part is the bill after having it explained and Misty saying we used your “refund” as a credit to your bill the way the bill was broken down and the “refund” amount things still didn’t add up. I have tried to reach out for more explanation and I feel that I have been ignored/scammed out of some money. Especially after hearing how much each additional implantation is I feel our estimated “refund” is a tad alarming. This isn’t a small amount of money you give towards this process and it is very stressful and can be heartbreaking at times so to be left hanging is very disappointing to end our experience this way.
The staff are all so friendly and caring. They explain in detail health conditions and the steps to correct issues. My husband and I have been ttc for 3 years, and had we not been referred, we wouldn't have known about certain health conditions.
Dr. Mccoy is fantastic! Highly Recommend
I’m sorry to see all the negative reviews, because I’ve had only positive experiences with PREG. From our first visit with Dr. Payne through the whole IVF procedure and post-transfer monitoring, we found the providers and staff to be kind, thorough, considerate, and efficient. We traveled a good distance (about 1.5 hours), and they worked with us to ensure we had convenient appointment times and to minimize our number of visits. They were better than our previous fertility clinic in virtually every respect, including price and technology/options. We successfully conceived our son through IVF and have returned to try for a second. I highly recommend PREG.
PREG along with GOD made our dreams come true! Dr. MCcoy and staff at PREG were wonderful and thanks to them we now have our miracle baby who is 10months old. Dr. McCoy is the best!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
