List of Steve Buie Md's Reviews
Dr.Buie is a brilliant Dr. The only way I could see someone not recommending him would be because he didn't just want to prescribe medication and get you out. He truly understood medication and the dangerous of over prescribing. He educated me so much and I'm truly grateful to him. To me he is one of the most caring and helpful doctors there is. Thank You Dr.Buie Ps. Go Tarheels.
Excellent
At first my feelings for Buie were lukewarm. He was recommended to me by a doctor who did her psych rotation with him, and she is one of the greatest doctors I’ve seen to this day. Unfortunately, Buie was quick to pawn me off on his interns and never spent more than 2 minutes with me. He put me on an outdated SSRI that none of my other doctors can understand why he put me on called Luvox. There were ...
I was hospitalized for five years where Dr. Buie was my doctor. I was avoiding life, because quite frankly I sucked at it on my own. I managed to avoid that little caveat for five years under the watchful eyes of many. I created my own little environment in the office, where I had a very fragile existence in an environment that was less than healthy. The only thing I can think of that would have been better for me at the time, would have been someone that said bluntly, let's not look at the past so much but lets focus on what you want to do tomorrow, and the tomorrow after that. Psychiatry and psychology spend so much time analyzing the past that they steal the future. He's a great doc, but he missed the point of life.
Not a great provider. Hard to relate to
I have been seeing Dr Buie for 10+ years and have had interactions with him on a professional level in previous years. My experience with interactions and treatment has been excellent. He is always thoughtful, listened to my experiences and concerns plus answered any questions I may have. Within our first session, my diagnosis was accurate and the medication prescribed have greatly improved my quality of life. I would highly recommend him!
Dr. Buie is not a good listener. He seems to make his assessments as patients walks through his door and that is what all of his care is based on. He does not allow patient input on their treatment and makes certain of asserting his dominance throughout the sessions. He insisted on administering TMS to me and my mind has never worked as well since. Research now available on it says it can affect memory and it certainly has for me. My identic memory along with many other mental capabilities, gone
I've seen Dr. Buie for almost 10 years. I'd been misdiagnosed for 13 years at the time that he first met me. Dr. Buie was the first doctor who explained my symptoms, as well as the most accurate diagnosis, in a way that was consistent with my personal experience. For this reason, I trusted him immediately and I always have, with respect to his judgments regarding medication. His initial choices of medications have remained the same over the 10 years. Dr. Buie did try some other things along the way, but his first choices turned out to be the best for the long-run. Over the years, I've become stable, he's been able to reduce my medication doses, and he's taught me to be independent in ways with prn medications that most doctors would want to control. That is, I view it as positive that Dr. Buie has given me ways to manage my disorder so that I do not have to make extra appointments for minor adjustments. Some people who've commented about Dr. Buie's non-responsiveness are likely picking up on this. If you need to see a psychiatrist often or need to make an immediate appointment, he's not a good doctor for you in that way. I work out many issues in therapy, and I accept that, for myself, there are certain limitations in terms of maximizing psychiatric medications. I get the sense that that is also Dr. Buie's approach, which might not be in sync with some patient's expectations. I agree with one of the reviews below: if you aren't willing to do what he asks you to do, he'll tell you that he can't help you. In a way, this is ethical. It's not right for psychiatrists or any doctor to keep treating you, knowing that they're not helping you or not likely to be helpful to you, for whatever reasons there may be. Different people need different things. Much of psychiatry is a goodness of fit between patient and doctor. I think that the upside is that, with some doctors, such as Dr. Buie, you'll know right off if it's going to work out or not. I prefer that to muddling along, as I've done in the past, not knowing if my doctor was helping me or not.
unresponsive, uncaring. I would not choose him again, nor would I recommend any friends/potential patients to him.
On more than one occasion Dr. Buie did not have my medication request sent to my pharmacy. On one occasion I went through withdrawals due to his negligence. It seems as though he has too many patients or he just does not care. I will never go to this doctor again.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
