List of High Country Community Health Watauga Center's Reviews
Most of the providers are excellent! However, many of the Watauga office staff are horrible. I hate feeling like an inconvenience when asking them to do their jobs. The also staff should also be able to do these said jobs without passing judgement.
Don’t waste your time doctors here will let you suffer before lifting a finger . Unreal how this office stays open with this kind of treatment
Perfect experience! I visited HC Community Health at the Avery County location and saw PA Bill McGuire. He is AMAZING! I have been in nearly constant pain since November 2020 in my hip. More days than not, I am barely able to walk. I had been misdiagnosed by an orthopedic specialist and several other doctors with having sciatica and was treated with medications and physical therapy with no relief or progress. I had also been seeing a chiropractor weekly with no improvement. Then I visited HCCH in Avery. I was seen and treated by Physician's Assistant, Bill McGuire as a walk-in patient while in a lot of pain. I expressed concern that I'd been misdiagnosed and after providing Bill with a brief history of my pain and lack of mobility, he was able to discern that I probably did not have sciatica but more than likely had an arthritic inflammatory condition which had been missed due to my young age. He changed my medication which hadn't been working at all to an anti-inflammatory medication that was specifically designed for arthritic patients. It helped immediately and I was able to walk without pain and limping for the first time in months. He also referred me for an x-ray at Cannon Hospital where they found that I had severe osteoarthritis and would need a hip replacement. I just wanted to take the time to sincerely thank Bill McGuire and all the staff at the Avery Office of HCCH from the bottom of my heart for 1. Being more competent than every other medical office or orthopedic specialist I've seen, 2. Caring about me and my condition, 3. Properly diagnosing my condition, and 4. Making sure that I received the proper treatment. It means so much to me and my life. I cannot thank PA Bill McGuire and the others enough. I was hesitant to see a walk-in clinic for my condition as I have "good" insurance and can get treatment anywhere. But, out of urgency, I visited HCCH in Avery. I could not have made a better decision for my condition. While talking to PA Bill, I learned he is a native, born and raised just over the mountain. Never underestimate the ability of a medical provider with a mountain accent, because I have been to many highly qualified doctors from afar who misdiagnosed me and treated me for the wrong condition. From now on, I'm gonna find PA Bill McGuire and let him tell me what's really going on with his mountain twang. :) Trust me, HCCH at Avery might be a walk-in clinic who cares for rural, economically disadvantaged people, but they provide some of the best care out there. They are extremely competent and diligent. You can't go wrong with Bill McGuire and HCCH. He's the best there is!
Its obvious all the 4 and 5 stars are friends or relatives of the employees at high country. I had to move from watauga county to get proper treatment.
My 86 year old mom waited for a week for her Eliquis and Pricalla told me all week there was no fax received for this, FINALLY CVS sent them another text, no one took responsibility for the incident, WHY WOULD A DOCTORS OFFICE PICK UP A FAX THREE DIFFERENT TIMES AND NOTHING WAS DONE, not a professional environment for the elderly 😢😢😢😢😢
Best place for therapy in boone
I found HCCH to be unorganized. I frequently had to wait an hour to be seen. The staff are caring but for me going to their office was almost always a stressful experience.
UPDATED OCT '20 (see below) *During COVID19* Today was my 1st time visiting this location. The service was phenomenal, great people & everyone from patients to staff were all wearing masks. Even though you can tell the building is older, everything was very clean & neat. I love that they work with you, concerning payment, on a sliding scale. My visit ended up being even less than I planned for so it's a great place for those on a tight budget.UPDATE: All of the above is still true except but this office has relocated to a new address on State Farm Road in Boone. I LOVE the new office! It's much larger and more up to date as far as the condition of the building as well as the look & feel of the environment. To anyone looking for a good licensed therapist whether it be for talk therapy or a more immersive therapy such as EMDR, Emily Gray is a wonderful choice. Especially for anyone who also needs a little help with the financial requirements, this office still uses a sliding pay scale based off of your income.
Very nice and comforting staff. They always work with my schedule, respectfully. People of the community trying to help the community, all while keeping a smile on their face and thinking of others.. Not once have i been/felt disrespected, uncomfortable, nor that they just want my money!100% genuine and professional staff every time i visited, I WILL BE BACK!!Thank you all for your service, especially during COVID-19.
This is an awesome place, everyone of them help you out with anything you need, Chuck Harris is an super pa

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
