I've been a patient of Dr. McAdams for 20+ years. She has always spent all the time needed to listen, and explore possible treatments. She definitely takes my health issues seriously and really cares about my quality of life. Yes, the wait is sometimes very long - it's because she takes as long as needed for every single patient. Her office staff is not always reliable to return calls, though.

Please listen: Number 1... call well before your appointment time. The receptionist will tell you how many patients are before you. Please understand that Dr.Suzanne McAdams WILL NOT rush her patients through their appointment. Call prior to your appointment so you do not have to wait in the lobby. I always do just this and it works well. Dr. Suzanne McAdams is very compassionate and very caring. We all must understand that one of Dr. McAdams patients may be having a very bad day or week due to their illness. Imagine if that patient were you. Dr. McAdams takes her time to provide the best neurological care in the area.
Dr. McAdams is a very good and caring doctor. Front desk staff, rude, curt and lacks compassion. Wait time is excessive with little or no explanation. After a one and a half hour wait for our last visit, we will not reschedule. Boone, N.C.

I waited a month for an appointment . I got there figuring at least30 min allowed to fill out paperwork which could have been emailed to conserve time. The office is small, and already one person waiting less than 6’from me but shortly joined by two others. When a third walked in I had already been there almost a hour and when I went to say I’d wait outside, wastoldit would be another 30-60 min more. She was teleconferencing. This is ridiculous.
There is little doubt you will most likely have a fairly long wait in the waiting room even past your appointment HOWEVER you will quickly find it was worth the wait. She will take just as long as needed to spend with you and be very thorough, explain things in detail in a way you can understand and answer all of your questions to your satisfaction. I cannot overstate how highly I would recommend her.

Dr. McAdams is one of the most knowledgeable Doctors in our area, the wait time is well worth it. Is very concerned for the care of her patient's.

Dr. McAdams is a God send in my life. I struggled for so long with migraines, mood swings, tiredness, and a list of other things. I had seen a ton of different doctors who just simply said it was normal or would treat one thing and ignore the rest. ONE visit with McAdams and she saw the connection right away and had me tested for Narcolepsy. SHE WAS RIGHT! I was 21 years old at the time. Now 10 years later, two kids, and big move 2 hours away, she is still the one I travel to see. She was amazing. Took the time to get to know me on a personal level and really cared for me as a person, not just a patient. She has always respected my wishes to take as little medicine as possible. Even caught my Post Postpartum Depression after having my second child when my OBGYN told me that I was fine. Screaming at your child is not "fine", having harmful thoughts towards your kids is not "ok"! Her staff are all the best people and treat me like I am an old friend every time I walk through the doors. When you have a great leader in the office, you will have a great staff! Wait times are a little long because she is so through with her patients. Because of this her staff will check you in and then let you go get lunch, walk at the park, hang out in your car, what ever you want to do. THEN they will call you when your room is ready. WHAT OFFICE DOES THAT!!! It's simply amazing. Never going any were else!
I have been a patient over 9 years. Yes you do have to wait a long time. but I would rather wait and see a a Dr that spends a lot of time with me going over my fears, condition, and explaining everything to me in language I CAN UNDERSTAND, instead of getting in fast with a Dr that that spends 15 min. and just listens to my heart asks me why I CAME and then gives me short answers. I cherish a Dr that is really concerned about the well being of their patient, and does not think a pill is the answer to everything. YOU KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH OUR WORLD TODAY? EVERYONE WANTS INSTANT, FAST. PEOPLE ARE SO SPOILED AND INPATIENT NOW A DAYS. I TRUST DR. MCADAMS WITH MY LIFE. SHE IS A GREAT DR. FOR GOD SAKES PEOPLE, BRING A BOOK OR PLAY ON YOUR PHONE WHILE YOU WAIT, SHE IS WORTH THE WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My mother is a patient of Dr McAdams and I couldn't ask for better treatment for Mom. Dr. Mcadams is patience, encouraging knowledgeable and helpful. She double checks any medicine interactions and always is looking for a way for things to get better for my mom. Thank you Dr. McAdams.

Dr. McAdams was clear and concise when explaining my diagnosis and yet she was warm and friendly. I felt like she was fully "present" in all of my office visits. I never felt rushed or dismissed, but felt she was really listening whether I was answering her questions or she was responding to my questions.
She's actually a very good doctor if and when you can actually get in to see her. But her office practices are dysfunctional, to put it lightly. We were sometimes seen 3.5 hours AFTER our appointment time! & she actually berated us once for leaving after waiting for 90 minutes because "someone else could have been seen then." ??? Very inconsiderate of people's time. Couldn't get away with these practices anywhere else but Boone. :(

She did not respond to my serious health crisis. She referred me to her Chronic Care Specialist, an inexperienced LPN who was hired to keep patients from having to go to the emergency room. Despite phone calls and hand delivered letters, I did have to seek emergency room treatment and was sent to a rehab facility for the medically induced breakdown I had suffered. After nearly 20 years of being her patient, she had no regard whatever for my suffering.
