I was referred to Dr. Carroll for Snapping scapula surgery due to my other doctor not being able to perform the surgery. I was able to get an appointment within a few days, and after going over everything I was approved for surgery and scheduled for 2 weeks out. This was back in October. My other shoulder required surgery as well and at an appointment at the end of November, I was scheduled for surgery on December 20th. Everything went great with both surgeries! Before these surgeries, I never thought my shoulders would be normal again. Dr. Carroll and Erika truly saved my life and I couldn't be happier with them. They get you in for appointments and surgery quickly and don't give you the run around like most doctors. Thank you both so much!
Terrible experience! Rotator cuff surgery in August 2018 repairing the infraspinatus. After 4 months of PT, I still could not raise my arm without extreme pain. Dr. Carroll ordered second MRI with contrast in December 2018. He read the MRI and determined that I had a torn supraspinatus that would require another surgery. At this point, I went to another surgeon. My second operation was on January 17th, 2019. My supraspinatus was fine! What I had was a torn biceps tendon that was missed during my first surgery performed by Dr. Carroll.
I have called multiple times to the nurse line to get an opinion from Dr Carroll because I am suffering a lot from frozen shoulder pain. I never received back a phone from Dr's office. It seems they don't care for patient because I clearly mentioned in the message that I am not able to sleep at nights due to pain but still no phone call was received back.
I can't describe how happy I am to have Dr Carroll and Erika Lynne Davis in my corner for my should issues. I had a total replacement done that just didn't work so I went to Dr Carroll for a second opinion, and I am so glad I did. He and his team were very professional and on point. Dr Carroll explained to me what he would do to fix the problem and a reverse implant is what was decided. I am out of surgery about 2.5 months I am pain free and I have better range of motion than I have ever had. I am so over the moon that I wish I would have gone to Dr Carroll from the beginning it would have saved me 1.5 yrs of issues. So, if you are having a problem with your shoulders please run to Dr. Carroll, you will not regret it he is the best.
A very caring and thorough doctor. Really has his patients best interests at heart. Would reccomend him highly!
For the last 5 years I have dealt with shoulder pain and limited movement. Injuries resulting from years of athletic involvement. I had rotator cuff surgery on the shoulder 15 years ago with minimal success and multiple cortosone shots followed. I saw Dr. Carroll in early April knowing that replacement surgery was in my near future. I had an MRI done and Dr. Carroll explained my options with either a standard or reverse procedure. We decided the reverse was my best option due to my shoulder situation. I had the surgery in early July and after a couple weeks of discomfort I started to heal. I followed his instructions to a tee and today I basically have a new shoulder. No pain, no limited motion, and building strength every day. I could not be a bigger advocate for Dr. Carroll and his entire staff. Great job and I would recommend highly to anyone considering this surgery. If you would like to discuss call his office ask for Erika for my contact info.
I am 5 months out from shoulder surgery and doing fantastic. DR Carroll is a shoulder guru. His associate Erika is amazing. She really took care of me after the surgery and made sure I was ready to return to work . Dr Carroll is the best but so is Erika. Thank you both you were awesome .
Dr Carrol’s P.A is great, but he is the exact opposite of her and I didn’t have a good experience at all. He lacks compassion and bedside manner and is extremely arrogant. Dr Carrol did 2 surgeries on my left shoulder for torn rotator cuff. First one seemed fine but I had clicking if bones at my clavicle. Second surgery to fix this and now I feel the cut bone stabbing me constantly. I asked for help and what to next Dr Carrol ripped a sling off told me to discontinue PT and let it heal. I changed Dr and was told the clavicle was cut too short and will need another surgery to fix it. I have been a patient at Cary Orthopedic for 20 years, my daughter, son and husband have seen several Dr there over the years. No more it’s a sad day not to be able to depend on a practice we loved.
I highly recomend Dr. Carroll based on the research I did when looking for a shoulder specialist and even more so based on my personal experience. When I felt early stages of occasional pain in my shoulder and forearm, Dr. Carroll did not immediately recommend surgery. The therapy and exercise regimen he recommended gave me an additional year of pain free Pickelball play. Gradually, over time my pain started re-occuring. Eventually the pain came more frequently and Dr. Carroll let me know it was time for orthoscopic surgery. I especially appreciated his taking time to help me understand what was occurring, why it would not get better without surgery and what I could expect post surgery. Dr. Carroll and his staff have been a pleasure to work with and my Pickelball future is looking bright again. Craig Rand
Dr. Carroll and the staff friendly and caring.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
