More unethical billing practices from UNC Healthcare. Dr. Joseph wasted much of my afternoon making me repeat myself over and over and correct him over and over, segment by segment, to the point that I was dehydrated and very hungry by the time I finally got out to do my labs. And now they are charging ME $163 extra above my copay for "prolonged outpatient" ie my time that he wasted - out of pocket because insurance won't cover the extra codes since they shouldn't have happened in the first place! My EOB even says UNC should not be charging me for these codes. Truly punishing me for being patient and extending grace to my doctor. Going forward I guess I need to treat my doctors as potential adversaries instead of extending them benefit of the doubt and human compassion, because apparently I can be made financially liable for their wasting my time and unethical medical coding. This is not the first UNC Healthcare visit that has charged me significantly above my copay and refused to correct it. Their billing reps gave me the runaround and didn't clear anything up. The itemized bill does not clearly show why I have to pay all that extra either. If you value clear and ethical billing practices and not paying triple or quadruple what your insurance says you should owe, avoid UNC Healthcare. And Dr. Joseph only explained my lab results a month after my lab, and after my messaging him twice with no response. I received interpretation of my results once I told billing that I would wait to pay for the labs (separate fee from the $163 for "prolonged outpatient") until I receive the results. Pros were they got me in quickly because of a cancellation, Dr. Joseph was nice (even if he exhausted me with that needlessly long and repetitious appointment), and the person drawing my blood was skillful and gave me food and water when I asked.
I absolutely loved the people and doctors.
The nursing staff, Susan and Rose were amazing! Highly recommend if you need an iron infusion.
I’ve been coming here since 2015 and always had a positive experience. The staff and doctors are all friendly and professional.
Awesome place! Office staff isn't super warm but the infusion nurses are AMAZING. They make sure you are comfortable and give you snacks and drinks. I will recommend this office for anyone who needs chemo or iron infusions.
Be prepared for long wait time for no reason. Lack of communication. Always minimum two hours for a visit.
The Drs are excellent but you have to be prepared to wait for the worst staff and total lack of communication among tech staff. There has obviously been a total change in procedure in last year none an improvement. To bad it was great.
AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!! THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!
My experience here wasn't that great for various reasons. Their office staff is sorely lacking. I had to call them twice to get an appointment, and then I had to call a third time because I was not emailed a confirmation and paperwork like the woman told me she would. My primary care physician had faxed and uploaded my records three times before they would even acknowledge they had them. I just got a bad feeling from the git-go and I should have followed my instincts in this case. On the day I walked into their reception area for my appointment, there were three women behind glass windows that were closed - and when I walked in, they glanced up at me through the glass but not one of them offered a greeting. They had a little sign on their window that they would call you when it was your turn or something to that effect. I had never encountered anything like this before in a medical practice. Another woman walked in a few minutes later and they ignored her, too. I met with Dr. Eisenbeis and he was pleasant and informative; however, he told me that he primarily treats stage 4 cancers with chemo and my cancer cannot be treated with chemo (as I already knew), so I did wonder why he made an appointment with me at all. He told me he'd refer me to another specialist. (I told him that I did not want to drive all the way to Chapel Hill for medical care, but four weeks later when I finally got a referral, it was from UNC in Chapel Hill !) After waiting 3 weeks for the referral, I called the nurse line of this practice and left a message about my awaited referral. The nurse left a message on my voicemail that she didn't know why I was calling. I called again (you can only leave a message) and explained WHY I was calling in more detail. The nurse called me back and referred me to the doctor who had done my first surgery at Duke Cancer Center that I was not seeing anymore. Am I joking? No - this really happened. So then, I decided that I would call another location of this practice in Raleigh, because the website stated there were doctors there who treated urologic cancers, and apparently that's a big NO-NO to these people because it caused all kinds of ridiculous drama that I did not need. A woman from Dr. Eisenbeis' office called me a few days later and chastised me for calling another location and telling them that Dr. Eisenbeis did not WANT to treat me, and I never said that to anyone. I SAID that Dr. Eisenbeis CAN'T treat me because he doesn't perform the surgical procedure I need. Finally, this woman told me that NONE of the the UNC/Rex Hematology Oncology locations have surgeons. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that once any doctor in their practice reviewed my records and saw that my cancer cannot be treated by their practice, I should have been TOLD immediately to keep looking. I'm not saying at all that these are not fantastic doctors who are excellent in their fields - but I am saying they need to completely reevaluate how they interact and communicate with patients. I have already had one cancer surgery, and all of this DRAMA was very upsetting and completely unnecessary. And while I'm sure the doctors are wonderful, from my brief experience with them, their clerical/reception/scheduling staff need A LOT more training. I have not mentioned any names here to limit any embarrassment.
Dr Sherrod was wonderful a completely caring professional experience unlike what I'd experienced at Waverly oncology. Thank you Dr Sherrod

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
