List of Wakemed Bariatric Surgery & Medical Weight Loss's Reviews
I just want to say I always try to be fair in all of my reviews. I want to first start off by saying anytime anyone has surgery it is a stressful time. The Bariatric coordinator Genise is absolutely amazing. This woman goes above and beyond her job to ensure patients are comfortable and confident about their choices they have made. Genise talks to the insurance companies along with returning patients calls and emails in a timely manner. So many times people are quick to complain when someone does something wrong, but never stop to take a moment to complement when someone does something right. Excellence needs to be recognized so I say thank you Genise for all your hard work. I know I haven’t been the easiest patient. Thank you for being kind, patient and showing empathy hats 🎩 off to you.
Amazing staff. Dr. Chung and anyone you speak with care about you as individual, they take the time and consideration to go over each step of your journey no matter which option you choose.
These people will schedule you, just to have you sit around for 3 plus hours.. I cannot even express my distaste for the lack of professionalism here literally here at like 230 now it's 5pm, they are supposed to be closing, I'm sure once the nurse doctor or ever actually walks in the room it will just be a few minutes of consultation, so why should I have to wait 2-3 hours. This is & $#@ing insane.
The scheduling coordinators are AWEFUL. I tried to schedule a consult for 21 days and called a total of 8 times in those days. I was told repeatedly I'd get a call back and NEVER did. I had to call and got nothing but excuses and ATTITUDE when I asked AGAIN if my insurance was finished being verified yet! I called Rex Bariatric and received a call back THE SAME DAY. And they scheduled me quickly WITHOUT making me wait for them to verify my insurance just for the consult!
Worst office staff imaginable. I have been a patient for a year, and every office visit there is an issue or something. They will not return phone calls or portal messages. If you want the surgery don't waste your time or money here. Go to UNC Rex, Duke, or Greenville NC.
I love the WakeMed village! I say village, because they really feel like family. In my opinion the Wake Med bariatric program is very organized, crazy thorough and has ALOT of programs/ tools to guide you through whatever stage you are in before and after surgery. I drive and hour and a half to go to WakeMed and since my surgery I have established all of my medical needs at WakeMed facilities. Not to pick favorites but Dr. Roy is AMAZING!!
The program is very disorganized, minimal educational components, and quality of care was subpar. I moved myself to Duke...and on the first day I gained more information and received more care than I did in 7 months with WakeMed. Don't waste your money or time.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
