List of John H Wood's Reviews
Dr. Wood recognized cancerous lesions at a very early stage and referred me to a specialist for the surgery. The specialist said it was remarkable that he caught these cancerous lesions at such an early stage and that I was very lucky. He is very focused and thorough with each exam and has always provided excellent advice.
Went with my husband for his app't with Dr. Wood. Both the doctor and staff were outstanding...most comprehensive doctor visit, for any reason, I've seen since being in N.C. The visit took 3 hours, with explanations of existing conditions....and no push for surgery since it "wouldn't make a significant difference". Alex (girl) did a thorough and patient eye exam prior to seeing Dr. Wood. She was also great.
Dr Wood has been my ophthalmologist for about 15 years. He has performed cataract surgery on both eyes. In both cases, the procedure was highly successful and free of complications. I am a big fan of this physician. I first saw him when a large black floater appeared in my eye one morning and, frankly, scared me. I phoned what was, at that time, my regular ophthalmology practice , but they could not see me for days. I phoned Dr Wood's office, and they set up an appointment for that afternoon. As things turned out, the floater was not a problem, and I was relieved within hours, thanks to Dr Wood. He is friendly but business-like, and that's fine with me. He is always ready to answer questions.
Went to see Dr. Woods for dry eye. His technician was short, impatient and rude. Dr. Woods was disappointing and totally unhelpful. Wore a mask that made it almost impossible to understand the few comments he offered. His male technician was rude and short to the point of rudeness. This physician is not one who will treat you with interest and concern. He obviously acts as if he could care less.
The lens inserted during cataract surgery left the vision at 20/60, although I erroneously assumed it would correct to 20/20, because friends had told me that was their experience. When I questioned Dr. Wood about it, he claimed I had asked him to match the vision in the eye to the vision in the other eye. That was NOT TRUE. I suspect he simply wanted to continue selling me eyeglasses in his optical shop. Friends told me it sounded like a malpractice case, but I'm sure he had made notes in my file that would substantiate his story.
My 76 year old husband had an appointment for 2:30 pm and came home after 4pm without having seen Dr. Wood. We had waited for months because of Covid to make this very important appointment for him and I had insisted on Dr.Wood since he came highly recommended by many of our friends. After one assistant made him fill out forms and another put drops in his eyes he was made to sit in a cubicle for far more than one hour. And this in a pandemic ! we had called before he left, we live 10 minutes from the office, and were told that they are on time..nobody ever came in to tell him what was going on. I was so upset about this outcome that I called the office manager where I could leave a message on an AM. Nobody called us back. They do not seem to care a bit. We are very disappointed. And our friends, too...
First time here and the last. Confused as about the wait time. Got here at 9:30 it's now 10:59.
awful!
Dr. Wood is great, he has been seeing me for years and always seems to genuinely care about the health of my vision. He has recently helped me treat a serious eye problem (corneal ulcer) quickly and efficiently, something that could have become much worse.
Very nice staff, professional Doctor and the adjacent eyeglass shop is great!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
