List of Unc Health Care's Reviews
UNC Chapel Hill is a machine with so many processes they absolutely dehumanize patients. Nothing is easy. Their Customer Service sucks. And the non-existent escalation process is unacceptable. I've been having billing issues with UNC Chapel Hill since I arrived in the Spring of 2020. I've escalated and have gotten nowhere. I told Customer Service that I wanted to write a letter directly to whoever was in charge of all of UNC Medical and I was told there was no one person. I asked who the Departments reported to - example, who does neurology, gastro, ENT, etc report to. I was told "no one". I asked for contact info. for the Board of Directors and I was told there wasn't one. How is it possible that there is no one person or no Board of Directors for Patients to forward complaints to? In addition to billing issues there have been Customer Service issues, in the specialists practice as well as in Customer Service department and I am being told there's no way to escalate. Again... how is that possible? I've never spoken to more unhappy, unpleasant, "meh", people in the past 20 years of non-stop medical treatment as I have in the past year and a half at UNC Chapel Hill.Referrals only, that's the only way you can get your foot in the door. Does it get any more pretentious than this? I've lived in 7 states and have seen the best Doctors around the country all with just a phone call and that includes several teaching hospitals. I had a referral. It expired. I was told to get a new one. I did - same day I was told, I got a new one from a Doctor in UNC. I called the specialist back to make an appointment because I had updated referral and I was told it had to be reviewed and somebody would get back to me in 7-10 days. AYFKM??? I was already accepted into the specialist department, the referral expired, you told me to get a new one, I did - same day, and now you're putting me off 7-10 days??? And appointments are scheduling more than THREE months out!!! WTF is your problem??!!
Disappointed, Disturbed, Distrust,... Once you leave ICU, the level of care is almost non-existent. At this point all I want is for my husband to be discharged. We did not choose to come here. My husband ended up here after an emergency situation...
This review is specifically for the UNC Pediatric Neuroscience Emergency Department. God forbid your child ever have to be admitted here. This place is the absolute worst. If they didn't have a problem going in - they certainly will before they leave. The way these kids are treated is appalling at best. It should be illegal to house kids in crisis for weeks with ZERO treatment. And while there are a few bright spots - the majority of the staff have no compassion and definitely should not be working in healthcare - especially pediatric healthcare. If you're just interested in collecting a check - this is not the field you should be in. Shame on UNC and the administrators for allowing this!!!!!!
My 98 year old mother was transported to UNC ER, she laid on a gurney for 17 hours, and was attended to for about 1 1/2 hours the time she was laying there. I got a call from a Dr at UNC Hillsborough after 12 hours in the ER, she said she called for transportation to have mom moved there. Two hours later I asked a nurse when mom was going to be moved, she said she wasn't going anywhere. They never called to have her moved, I requested to speak to the Dr in charge, he said they have no beds in Hillsborough, I told him I talked to her Dr in Hillsborough and she had a room waiting for her. He excused himself for a few minutes, then came back to tell me they didn't have enough staff to care for my mom. All lies, he then told me he called for transportation but it would take a few more hours before they would come. I can call EMS and they arrive within 10 minutes, after 17 hours she was finally moved. There in no communication between staff, and no compassion for patients, no patient should lay in the ER for 17 hours, especially a 98 year old women.I would recommend going to Duke, or other hospitals before UNC.
Today is 8/19/20, I have been waiting 6 hours with BP 142/112 and a fever of 100. It is now 10:46 and I was told there are no beds. It is such a shame this hospital which is a big establishment and supposed to be the best cannot accommodate. I am highly disappointed with the UNC ER dept.
I've been coming to this hospital ever since I was 9 I'm 25 now. I've had 2 brain surgeries here for seizures. I've had my tonsils removed here. I've had 2 stomach surgeries. I've been to the burn center for 2nd degree burns on my face arms and legs. I wouldn't recommend the burn center. I told one nurse I'd kill him if he touched me again they ripped my skin off instead of gently pilling the skin.
Barb Hoffman, Emerald PointeFamily Doctor!Hello Everyone!!I relocated here to N.C. from Pennsylvania 11 months ago! I was afraid to find a family doc because I only had 3 in my entire life: my childhood doc, my ex-fiancé and my brothers best friend who I grew up with. Finally, I needed a doc last week! The one recommended to me was not taking any new patients. GOD blessed me with Dr. William Cheatham! He definitely tops all of the docs I had in the past! He makes ME feel like I am his ONLY patient!!! He is so caring and funny too!!He did all kinds of bloodwork on Friday and called me personally Friday night! I missed the call and he called back on Saturday!! What doc does that?? He went over everything and any concerns! He got another result after I spoke to him on Saturday and actually called me back and called in a prescription for me!I know I am safe in his hands and this is my last family doc! If you are looking for a doc or not sure about the one you have....PLEASE!! Checkout Dr. Cheatham! THANK GOD he was helping out Knightdale Family Practice last week or I would have never found him!! He has a brand new office near the Triangle Towne Mall:Dr. William Cheatham6021 Poyner ParkwayRaleigh, NC984/215-4940Tell him Barb Hoffman recommenced him!!Please, do yourself and your family a favor and checkout Dr. Cheatham! You will love him!! GUARANTEED!!!
Improve follow-up care. There is a lot of concern until you hit 30 days and then, it's like, okay now you are on your own, whatever happens, regardless of whether aftermath is a result of the surgery performed. Was greatly disappointed with my aftercare and regret having this surgery; having problems, still, a year later.
I came on to review my pregnancy-related experience with UNC. I'm not surprised to see them rated so low. I chose a Home birth for my 3rd baby after two birth center births. Consistently I gestate to 42 weeks and birth healthy babies. Because I am a "late" birther I always have to go in for a non-stress test. My Midwife ordered the non-stress test and ultrasound. After the non-stress test showed two slight decels of the heart rate (which can be normal) the doctor recommended extended monitoring. I understood and wanted to check in with my Midwife first. After this request the doctor turned around and essentially told me my baby could die inside of me. It was insensitive and I could tell he was saying it more because he didn't like that I was consulting with my Midwife versus the desire to express genuine concern. My midwife told them she wanted them to perform an ultrasound before any extended monitoring took place. They took me to labor and delivery, hooked me to machines anyway and wouldn't do the ultrasound until I had been monitored for an hour which showed zero issues. I asked to come off but was told to wait for the ultrasound. An hour later the ultrasound checked out perfect with zero issues on the monitoring machine as well. Again I ask to come off the machine but no. I sit for another hour very frustrated at this point because I don't understand why I am still there. Finally a nurse comes in and lets me know that I am waiting for a doctor...whom I have never met before...to come out of a cesarean and "make a plan" for me. I am shocked. Why is a doctor I have never met making a plan for me and why wasn't I told this? I ask if he is going to try to make me stay and be induced. She tells me yes and in this conversation she also mentions how much more likely it is is for my baby to be "here today and gone tomorrow" since I will be 42 weeks. The doctor calls my midwife, still before even meeting me, talking to me...anything...and recommends induction. She lets him know I am leaving the hospital but has to work hard to have her decision respected. The doctor then comes into my room and without any questions about my pregnancy simply states he recommends induction. I tell him that because all monitoring in labor and delivery plus the ultrasound were 100% clear I was comfortable going home and of course would return if any situation arose that warranted it. He looks displeased with my decision. He then comes off the wall and goes to walk out and it's not until he is almost out of the room that he turns around and asks me if my baby has been moving (she had). A question I would have thought would be asked upon first meeting me. He says "good luck", walks out and shuts the door. I was frustrated that I had been there so long without any communication and that is what I was waiting for. Then the bill comes and I am specifically billed for the number of hours I am in labor and delivery and it is astronomical. I try to appeal for a lesser bill based on my experience of having monitoring done before the ultrasound against the instructions of my Midwife, being held there longer than I wanted and not being told I was being held so a doctor could come give me a plan when I would have told them I did not want one and would have left after my test came back clear. They said they would review it. The investigator "reviewed" it by talking to the doctors, coming back and telling my husband and I that everything we said and felt about our experience was "wrong" and that we owe the whole bill. In my experience, they do not respect non UNC or WBWC midwives, pregnant women who wish to birth outside of their care or individuals. My goal is for all women to at least read this and consider being tested elsewhere. But if this was one day for me there...I would recommend not birthing there at all. I'm paying $1,300 to have had both my and my Midwife's wishes ignored and told my baby could die inside of me 3 times in a matter of 4 hours because my baby "was at risk". You know what risks they don't discuss? The risk of pitocin on mother and baby...and the epidural that would follow bc of unnaturally strong contractions and then the much higher risk of a cesarean section because pitocin speeds up baby's heartbeat and the epidural slows it down putting stress on the baby resulting in an "emergency c-section". Then the risk of my baby not breastfeeding well because of said drugs. I went home and gave birth to a healthy baby at 9lbs 1oz that very night via water birth with zero complications. It has been shown several times in studies that it is safer for low-risk women to birth out of hospital because of the number of interventions that take place. This experience in having a doctor want to administer these interventions on me before even meeting me face to face makes me understand these statistics and I'm so glad that I was informed and could avoid them. I hope this review helps someone else avoid my terrible experience at UNC.
