Tolga Mesen's Online Review Report Card

When I think about Dr. Mesen and all he has done for my husband and I, I want to cry! He has advocated for us in every possible way, and has provided the best care. We have been to several other fertility clinics over 5 years but have never before been treated with the level of thoroughness and respect Dr. Mesen has shown us. Thanks to his help and expertise, we are finally pregnant with our miracle baby through IVF.

He has taken care of our needs for four years with so much care and determination! I recommend him to everyone!

I do not recommend this practice unless you would prefer to exit this world instead of bringing life into it. It is over a year later and I am still suffering side effects from the poor care I received (which are DIRECTLY related as I had ZERO pre-existing issues before "treatment" at CFI) but I am grateful to be alive- no thanks to CFI. The staff is composed of CNA's who rudely ask you if you're pregnant when you mention the major side effects you're experiencing from the medication that was (negligently) prescribed. My symptoms should have IMMEDIATELY caused them to send me to the ER. Instead, NO ONE on staff (the DR, the CNA's, NO ONE) even bothered to check my vital signs (in over 20 visits, my vitals were taken ONCE- on my very first visit), which would be the FIRST thing any professional healthcare provider should do. Instead, I received nothing but condescension and rudeness from the entire staff. It is overwhelmingly clear based on who he employees and his manner that Carolinas Fertility Institute could care less about his patients health or well-being. I went to the ER straight away following my appointment and did not take Mesen's advice of "get through it" or the two nurses (likely a CNA) advice of "Girl you're FINE, There's nothing wrong with you at all-maybe you're pregnant right now!" and for me to "Just go to the gym or go shopping for baby clothes!". So incredibly unprofessional and dismissive. At the ER I was diagnosed as being in a state of hypertensive crisis which was followed by a pulmonary embolism and a transient ischemic attack (mini-stroke). Thank goodness I wasn't at CFI when it happened-Considering the level of care these people provide to their patients, I'd likely be dead. My GP and OBGYN were absolutely appalled at my condition and treatment- both have heard multiple horror stories about Carolinas Fertility Institute (this location as well as WS). Following my embolism, stroke and subsequent hospitalization and recovery I was not ONCE checked on by the clinic- even after my partner followed up to inform them of my hospitalization and WHY we would NEVER return. Who knows if it was even told to Dr. Mesen- from every conversation I overheard at my MANY appointments the front desk staff is completely inept and desperately needs to learn HIPAA protocol. They regularly forget to schedule appointments properly, gossip loudly about other patients with the staff & TO other patients (FYI- The walls are thin- WE CAN HEAR YOU!), double bill patients frequently and flat out lie on the phone when speaking to patients to cover her unprofessionalism. These people have no business being employed in such a sensitive environment. The sanitary conditions of the rooms and equipment also leave much to be desired. I had to actually TELL THEM to put a cover on the ultrasound once! Disgusting. Numerous tests were performed that we NEVER saw the results from...When asked, these tests are not in my records nor could they provide any info....yet we paid thousands for them (the majority which were not even needed according to multiple reproductive physicians I have consulted with (all with excellent reputations and service, unlike this travesty of a practice). CFI is also INCREDIBLY overpriced (this is a statement of fact and not opinion as I have excellent insurance which covered everything and I am fortunate enough to have zero issues with paying out of pocket if needed). The staff is absolutely USELESS when it comes to answering ANY type of financial questions or even with obtaining your own records. There's a reason that this "chain" of practices has a terrible reputation in the medical community (and is horribly reviewed by other victims of their ineptitude). There are many excellent providers in the Charlotte and Winston Salem areas, with excellent reputations and hospital affiliations. PLEASE do not make the same mistake I did and make sure to read up on all of the physicians affiliated with CFI- it could save your life.

He is an excellent dr. He treated me in 2015 and I have a handsome boy as a result.

Bedside manner is non-existent.

His bedside manner is like a medical student working on a cadaver - he's not aware of or interested in how you're doing or feeling physically or emotionally as a person, just in getting his task done.
