List of Barry Kaplan's Reviews
6 yrs ago Dr Kaplan did a PLIF on my lower back for a drop foot. I'm so thankful for his thoroughness and that the surgery was so successful. He's the best!
I came from a nearby county hospital under emergent circumstances because Mission was on diversion. I was summarily diagnosed with Cauda Equina syndrome and some other neurological issues, along with suspected meningitis. We were up against the wall as I was experiencing partial paralysis in my left leg. Dr. Kaplan came in, carefully explained everything, showed us the images and told us that I would need surgery immediately. While he was trying to explain the results, he chased down 2 different computers when one wouldn't work to show us the imaging. He came in early the next morning (on a Sunday) and performed the procedure. Before I even left the hospital I was walking again. Within three days of going home, I was completely pain medication free. I'm walking better than I have in YEARS and was quickly discharged from home physical therapy because I was so mobile and doing so well. Dr. Kaplan was so kind, so patient, and just a phenomenal physician. His bedside matter was top tier. As a medically complex person, I have seen a lot of physicians over the years at many facilities (including Duke, Wake, UNC etc) and I can say unequivocally that Dr. Kaplan is the upper echelon. You won't regret seeing him.
My husband had surgery to remove a tumor on his spine and Dr. Kaplan was an absolute Godsend. He is comforting, extremely knowledgeable, caring, thoughtful and thorough. For him to be practicing in Hickory, NC now is amazing!
After upper neck surgery, left me with severe pain that can only be controlled with continuous pain management injections. Only saw him a total of 15 minutes through the process. Good luck getting to talk to him after. Don't let him touch you. Find another
Had high hopes after hearing about Dr. Kaplan but sadly my "Brief" experience at my recent appt. was abysmal. Seems he decided my fate before even attending to me and even though I was outwardly distraught as was my Wife he gave the impression he could not be bothered, and after a cursory hold up your hands type exam, I was told He could do nothing for me, my history is complex with 2 prior spine surgeries and years of therapy, I was only trying to convey my recent symptoms which have become quite worrisome and disruptive to my daily life, but never got the chance, I was then told I may have "Epilepsy" and with me and the Wife in tears he left. I am seeking out more options about being treated so poorly and not given any "Details" as to why Much more to this but typing is very difficult...
I was referred to Dr. Kaplan from my Family Dr. He reviewed test results, histories, and years long trial procedures, concluded surgery was not the answer, my pain was nerve root damage. He referred for spinal cord stimulator. My life is now normal.
Absolutely trustworthy and top notchsurgeon!!! I've known others who also recommend him highly. (Dancers) He perormed a spinal fusion in 2017- after years of PAIN PAIN PAIN... I tried chiropractor, physical therapy, shots- you name it. My 90 year-old Mother told me only surgery was going to work, and she was right. Always listen to your Mother (LOL)
I had spinal fusion at C56 and C6/7 in 1999 I followed all of his pre and post op instructions. I have full function and am thankfully pain free ever since. Thank you.
Had lamenectomy not good
Thank you so much you gave me my life back!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
