Thank You PINEHURST SURGICAL CLINIC for making my first appointment a fantastic experience. Right from the start with the very nice person who checked me in, to the very end with the very nice Kelly who scheduled my next visit, I had nothing but a relaxed warm feeling of being around family and people who care about you. It should go without saying, but I will say anyway. Dr. John Michalak and his nurse/assistant ( I am Truely sorry for forgetting your name ), are two of the nicest people you could ever meet. You can tell right away that both are very good at all that they do. From making you feel relaxed to explaining your issues or situation in a way that is easy to understand, to answering any questions you might have, both are number #1 in book. I look forward to my future visits, even if it is to just say "Hello". To ALL at PINEHURST SURGICAL CLINIC that had made my day, I say... THANK YOU Walter Braxton
I had the urolift procedure by Dr. Michalak and honestly it changed my life. Beforehand, I was getting up 4-5 times at night to urinate and couldnt get through a round of golf without having to go to the bathroom. I felt like I always had to pee. Now I can urinate like a young man again and I have never been happier. The procedure took only a few minutes and the pain level was mild. Dr. Michalak made sure I was comfortable throughout the process. He provides great care and does a great job!!
I was diagnosed with severe BPH by Dr. Michalak after struggling to urinate for years. I had tried all type of medicine and pills without any relief...he gave me several surgery options to unblock the prostate. One of the ways that he suggested was something called UroLIFT which I had not heard of. After researching it I decided to go ahead. The procedure took less than 10 minutes and there was not very much pain. Best way to describe the discomfort is a strong urge to pee with pressure. Within a few days I was able to urinate strongly and I was only waking up 1 time at night to go to the bathroom. I am so happy I found to this young man and I would recommend him to anyone. He is professional and you can tell he really cares about his patients.
This was my 4th, maybe 5th, lithotripsy procedure I've had and the first one here in NC. It was the smoothest, easiest one ever. Dr. Michalak and his staff were professional yet friendly and all put me at ease. I appreciate the care I was given and highly recommend him and his staff to anyone needing this procedure. Thanks, all of you. You are the best.
I had a recent UroLift procedure after a recommendation from Dr Michalak. We discussed it prior and I asked about anesthesia. He advised that they do not do this at First Health as it is a relatively pain free procedure. I trusted him on this but it turned out to be totally not true. I was given a half a pain shot and went into the procedure room. In the room they turned on a aromatic misting machine, music and wanted to give me 2 soft toy hotdogs to squeeze during the operation. You cannot make this up but this was their way to mitigate pain. I was suspicious that my decision was bad and this was confirmed a few seconds later when I went through the operation. The pain was absolutely intense. I have a high pain tolerance and had a knee replaced. I was back bowling and golfing in 6 weeks from that. Most folks take 3 - 4 months. In my opinion, to put patients through this level of pain without even using proper pain management is totally irresponsible. Go elsewhere.
I left a review for Dr. Michalak a couple of months ago but it seems to have disappeared. He is such an exceptional doctor that I will take the time to rewrite a review for him. I was in the hospital in Aug. 2019 with renal failure and was told I had very large kidney stones and was referred to Dr. Michalak. Having had a CT scan in the hospital he informed me that I had several very large staghorn stones in both kidneys. He did surgery on one kidney in Oct. and the other kidney in Nov. 2019. Being unable to get all the fragments he is doing a clean up surgery on me in the morning Jan. 24, 2020. I really like Dr. Michalak. He is very thorough, doesn't rush through my appointments, takes the time to answer and explain all of my questions in a manner I can understand. I highly recommend Dr. Michalak.
Dr. John Michalak performed two kidney related procedures on me recently with great success. Zero complications and minimal post-pain after surgery. Dr. Michalak is well educated, uniquely qualified, and has exception communication/people skills. I would describe him as personable but all business. Should you have health problems needing his area(s) of expertise, I would highly recommend speaking with him. You have nothing to loose but everything to gain.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
