List of Steven Prakken Md's Reviews
Saw Dr. Prakken at HRC, Duke, and am thrilled to see his new practice at Avance. He's smart, compassionate, thorough, kind, thinks outside the box. Rare to find pain doctors who so conscientiously consider over/under prescribing, med side effects, addiction concerns, etc. He cares about whole patient function, not just treating symptoms. And he's a nice person.
I saw Dr. Pracken for several years and was totally satisfied with his performance, professionalism, his down to earthness, his sense of humor and his all around caring attitude. I am shocked that he only has 3.7 stars. I cannot understand where this is coming from. HM
One of the best if not the best doctors I've had the opportunity to receive treatment from for several years. Professional, knowledgeable listens to you and takes your concerns, pain issues or what have you into consideration, then comes up with a plan to help you manage/cope with your health issues. Wish there were more like him.
Dr Praaken is an awesome pain management Dr.,I have been a patient of his since 2002.I would highly reccommend him as an excellent Dr.in the treatment of chronic pain in all areas. He knows his stuff and has a great patient Dr.repor.Duke hospital is very fortunate to have him as the Head of the pain dept.So if you are in need of the best pain Dr.,Dr.Praaken is your Dr.and may I add he is a great boss ,and family guy.
He dismissed years of extensive MRI evidence of physical causes of pain; a symptomatic, rare, progressive, painful spinal cord disease that mainly affects women and is specifically listed for the "compassionate use of medical cannabis" in Illinois, herniated cervical, thoracic, and lumbar discs with sciatica, brain lesions, intracranial hypertension for which a lumbar puncture was necessary to relieve pain and pressure, etc., and replaced it with a bogus "fibromyalgia" diagnosis, then prescribed Wellbutrin (don't all women just "need" an anti-depressant?!). When I complained, he discharged me "from the clinic", preventing me from seeing any other doctor at the clinic. Constant chronic pain is not mental illness or depression. I see he's now conducting "Fibromyalgia Pain Research" so he must have wanted another research subject.
I've been seeing Dr. Prakken for 10+ years. He's the BEST doctor I've ever seen. I don't agree with the previous comment about him getting facts and dates wrong. He takes meticulous notes. So if you tell him something at a previous appointment, he'll know it at the next. He's the smartest man I know and I'd recommend him to anyone.
I waited over 4 months to see him. He could not keep the dates correct with my health timeline, could not keep my answers correct to his questions and would keep going back in his notes to verify them more than once. Basically called me a liar about an answer I gave to the Dr who sent me to him & then found it in the prior notes but never apologized. Quoted European statistics to me which was odd as we were both in America. Two words sum up my visit with him. 1. Quack and 2. Retirement

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
