Dr Cortez and staff are friendly, professional and help to make you feel comfortable. Especially if you have anxiety related to dental visits. Dr Cortez takes care to keep patients and staff protected during care and treatment. I did not realize how uncomfortable my mouth and old fillings were until they were removed and replaced safely limiting mercury exposure. Thank you Dr. Cortez😊

We saw Dr. Cortez for an expander for my son in September 24. She sold me on the Invisalign expander and told me all of the dangers of the metal expander for my son. I decided to move forward with using my insurance and installing the Invisalign expander. The day I paid my portion (1863 dollars) Dr Cortez called me back and told me my son didn’t qualify for the Invisalign expander and that I had to do the metal expander. I told her I didn’t want to move forward with the metal expander, to not file with my insurance, and to give me my money back. It took Dr. Cortez’s office almost 40 days to return my money! Fast forward now to June 2025 - I’m moving forward with a consultation with another orthodontist with my insurance and come to find out cape fear smiles filed with my insurance back in September! Not only were they paid out by my dental insurance but they never returned the money (1750!) to delta dental for the work Dr. Cortez did NOT do!!! Now that I’ve caught their mistake I now have to deal with not having the orthodontic insurance coverage amount for our son until cape fear smiles pays back the 1750 check they happily cashed and held on to with out telling anyone. Could take upwards of 30+ days. So thanks a lot!! Do NOT go to this dentist!

This was my first visit at Cape Fear Smiles. I was treated with very kind and professional staff. Everything that had to be done was explained in detail. I saw Dr N.J Cortez. She was professional and went the extra time to listen to my concerns and she was able to come up with a plan and solution to my dental heath care. I highly recommend Cape Fear Smiles.

My 4 year old son was given a referral to Cape Fear Smiles by his primary dentist in order to correct a tongue tie. I never received a phone call from them to set up a new patient appointment so eventually I called myself and set one up. Strike one. We drove an hour away from home just to be told that “yes he has a tongue tie but we won’t be able to perform the surgery because he would need to be under sedation and we don’t do that.” Strike two. The “appointment” took all of twenty minutes and then we were escorted to the front. Then and only then was I told by the receptionist that they don’t bill insurance so the consultation will be $309.00 for today. I was not made aware of this prior to scheduling. Strike three. We won’t be returning.
