Present at the ER with brain trauma. They sit me behind 4 people with flu symptoms. Waited 4 hours for them to take my vitals. Now I have to go across town to cape fear and start the process over. This hospital is garbage. Everyone has their heads up their aes. You dont tell a patient with a possible brain condition to go get in a 4 hour line. More help to be found at a bojangles drive thru.Id sooner go to a veterinary hospital.

I brought my friend to the emergency room as she is in excrutiating pain due to side effects from chemo pain medicine. We have been sitting here over 3 hours still no doctor has seen her or has she been even taken back to the treatment area. She is immune compromised due to being on chemo for her cancer no one seems to give a darn. Their idea of triage is a joke. I will never come here again It is awful dirty besides.
Some things dont change. I will never come to this place again. Im not gonna write about everything I experienced because its just to much to complain about... They like to blame Covid 19 for all there neglecting rudeness unqualified staff dirty rooms and lack of overall service.. I hate to break the news.. its always like that Just look at the reviews from other people before COVID 19.. Ive had medical care my whole life in a lot of different places... This is my 6th time Ive come here and it will be my last I never had a good experience here. This place is a joke Ill drive 100 miles away before I go there PS I have top of the line Insurance And Im not the type to complain for no reason. This place is just terrible I know one thing they are good at.... Billing Other than that... Ill give this Hospital 0 stars Nothing nice to say...
I had an emergency surgery yesterday and they took such great care of me. Dr Harris did a flawless surgery and the whole team was so nice. The whole team was helpful made me feel at ease and seemed to genuinely cared about me.
My experiences in both the ER and the PACU were the absolute worst care I have ever received in my life. The ER doctor flat out lied on the paperwork and sent me home drugged up without a ride and no explanation. The PACU nurse ignored me for hours never called my family to update them and tried to kill me by giving me a medication I was allergic to. I hope I never need to go back.
I just spent my third week as an inpatient here this year. Each time I came through the emergency department. While there are a few things Id have changed like having to lie on an uncomfortable stretcher in a room with a curtain and no door for 24+ hours in the ER observation wing waiting for a room upstairs compounding my pain and exhaustion for sure I have been seen quickly and taken seriously each time Ive shown up here. I was waiting in the lobby for just over an hour Monday evening about 9 people ahead of me. I was seen by my nurse and doctor within ten minutes of being placed in a room taken for imaging and other tests within half an hour medicated several times for pain and given all of my results by the two hour mark. Thats when I was admitted. They listened when I said my IV wouldnt last checked my history and immediately ordered a PICC line be placed and the PICC team came in a few hours later. They were very accommodating and allowed my nurse to come in and administer pain meds while keeping the sterile field. After a little over 24 hours I was moved to my room in the new tower. 65 TV. Huge picture window. Private large bathroomshower. Large single room. Clean. Quiet. The nursing staff while full of brand new grads that were nervous about making mistakes was compassionate and quick to answer call lightsbring meds and drinks to my bedside. I was checked on constantly by nurses and aids when I had a scary POTS episode at 4am on night four two nurses and three docs were in my room within five minutes. The five or so doctors on my team checked on me at least once a day each and sometimes more. Im a complicated patient with several chronic issues severe intractable pain thats difficult to treat and more. Im always apologizing for needing help and here Im reassured that no apology is necessary. That might sound small but its huge when youve been sick your entire life and have had countless practitioners guilt you for your pain and suffering. I dont currently have insurance so the hospitalist made sure to get social work palliative care and several specialists on my case so I could undergo necessary tests that usually would have been scheduled as outpatient follow ups. I was assisted in signing up for charity care and will be seeing specialists for follow ups and an important surgery. I was on a PCA for my pain for days slowly transitioned to normal food and oral meds and felt listened to and cared for the entire week. Every last nurse I had was knowledgeable and kind. Nobody ever complained about the amount of diet ginger ales I asked for. Every time I know Im about to need to spend time hospitalized I drive here from Jacksonville where I live less than a mile from another hospital. That should tell you something. Also since the Novant merger the ER and floor seemed to have fewer staffing issues and shorter wait times. The only reason I didnt give five stars is because of small things that would have made a huge differencelike having a real bed for the first day and a half not being forced to wait over 24 hours for my ordered PCA cant set it up downstairs and such. Honestly Im not even complaining From start to finish from the housekeepers to the aids the nurses to the midlevel providers and attendings everyone was extremely kind and there wasnt a moment that I felt unsafe or uncared for. Ive also had three major surgeries here in the past and their surgical pavilion is legitimately topnotch. Ive also had a procedure done in their heart center which was of course an incredible experience as well. Overall this is the best hospital in the area.
Updating my review to 1 star. But I would give zero if I could.I begrudgingly paid for my initial bill despite the price being higher than the quote I was given before my appointment.Today I received a SECOND bill. This time it was from Delaney Radiology even though I was never told prior or after my appointment when I spoke with the NHRMC billing dept that I would receive any bills other than the first one. When I called NHRMCs billing dept today they said that the NHRMC team should have given me a heads up that there would be 2 bills beforehand but since NHRMC didnt do it and I got the treatment done anyway now I need to pay the 2nd bill or face stiff penalties. That logic is like going to a restaurant ordering items from the menu where the prices are clearly listed eating the food getting a bill for double the price at the end of the meal and the restaurant then saying Yeah we should have told you the food prices on the menu were not accurate at all but now that you ate the food you need to pay it anyway or else we will penalize you.So in the end not only did NHRMC give me an inaccurate price quote and upcharge me after my appt I received a second bill for almost the same amount as the first one so in total I was billed DOUBLE the amount of the price quote. In conclusion BEWARE OF NHRMCIf you book anything at NHRMC even if they confirm the pricing to you on the phone beforehand and assure you that will be the total price you will pay they can still charge you double or who knows how much afterwards. Extremely unethical practices and I question if what they do is even fully legal.UPDATE NHRMC commented below responding to my review asking me to email them and they will connect me with the billing department. Ive spoken with the billing department 4 times at this point. The latest time they were very condescending and threatening. Not a great combination.
Im usually not one to leave negative reviews but I do think people should be aware of the upcharging they do here. The medical was great DURING my treatment and I have only positive words to say about that experience. However AFTER I was charged a higher price than the outofpocket price confirmation I was given beforehand the price I agreed to prior to booking my appointment which I do find misleading and a bit disconcerting. I called NHRMC today and asked if maybe there had been a mixup to give them the benefit of the doubt but she said that no this everything is correct. I asked if essentially NHRMC can choose whatever price they want after services rendered regardless of the quote they gave the patient beforehand and she said Yes. As a patient that is a bit scary as technically that means that NHRMC can give you a cash price quote beforehand and could charge you double or triple afterward.
I had an emergency on 06112020 at the height of the covid 19 restrictions. I was billed by New Hanover Regional Medical Center $123.00 on 812020. Which I sent a check for that amount. Unfortunately I ended up sending it to the doctors office as all the bills came at once and were all labeled the same way. A couple of weeks go by and I get a call from the doctors office letting me know that I had sent the check to the wrong place. She asked if I wanted the check sent back to me or to the hospital. I said the hospital but two weeks later the check came to my home. By then I had received another statement stating that if I had paid $92.22 before such and such a date that they would forgive the $30.74. Which I had done...just to the wrong address. I called the billing department I wrote them two letters explaining what had happened with proof of the envelope that had come back. They wouldnt budge and sent my account to collections. Mind you I have ALWAYS paid on time and the whole amount. The purpose of forgiving the amount is to the intensive to pay on time. I DID THAT. The fact they would not forgive the $30.74 despite the proof is reprehensible. What is a drop in the proverbial bucket to them is essential for me. I realize this is my fault but when all the billing looks alike and has the same heading and you get the envelops mixed up you think they can forgive the $30.74 that was intensive to make you pay in the 1st place
