i had a consult with dr.hope several years ago…..no surgery was needed, but this is the Dr. i would go to…….addressed my needs professionally and answered all my questions without being rushed

Dr. Hope performed hernia surgery on me in 2012. I was an athlete in peak fitness at that time. He was supposed to do an exploratory surgery to see if a prior hernia repair had failed. He had told me if it didn’t fail, he would close me up and leave well enough alone. I had not had a reoccurrence, yet while I was under anesthesia, he took it upon himself to remove a small piece of mesh from between my fascia and replace it with a huge piece of mesh (I am a small framed female and the original hernia was very small) across my entire abdomen and inside my abdominal cavity. His rationale was so that I could continue my weightlifting. This was not discussed. He could’ve paused and talked to my husband about his change in plans and risk involved. He didn’t. I had complications afterward but was dismissed as having IBS. A few years later, things came to a head. That mesh he put in had adhered to my intestines. I ended up losing close to 3ft of small intestine, and I had 6 more surgeries to ‘fix’ his horrible judgment. I actually traveled to some of the top hernia surgeons for consultations and also subsequent surgeries. I received shocked looks and one surgeon actually commented, “I wouldn’t have done that…I’m not sure why he did that.” Dr. Hope took my quality of life and stole pivotal years from my children while was in and out of surgeries. He has a nice enough bed side manner, but his skill and surgical judgment is horrendous. I wouldn’t recommend him to anyone who values their health.

Best hernia surgeon in NC. Believe me I know. He repaired two inguinal hernias and one hiatal. No problems at all since!

Dr Hope performed the hernia surgery on my mother in 2013. His mistake in surgery caused my mothers death. A hole was poked in her esophagus and left open. She died in the hospital shortly after the surgery. It still bothers our family and nothing can be done about it. I do not trust Dr Hope and will never allow anyone I know to go to him. I would give no stars but it wont allow that option.

I would highly recommend Dr Hope. He explains everything thoroughly, is so pleasant and his office staff is very professional. My experience with surgery by Dr Hope was excellent

If you can, make the 2 hour drive to Duke hospital instead. Dr. William Hope was too busy laughing and joking with his coworkers to answer my questions on a terminally ill relative. Kept his back to us the entire follow-up and ran out the room.

With out him and his knowledgeable team I would be dead. They saved my life back in December of 2008 when I had torn my aorta and had several internal ingeries from a motor vehicle accident. Thank you for having faith in my recovery and giving me a fighting chance to survive. You deserve the greatest life has to give. Thank you.
