Jeffrey Akerson's Online Review Report Card

I saw Dr Akerson one time 1 1/2 years ago. Difficult to make a decision on the efficacy of a doctor based on one visit. However, based on those supporting him, it makes me question the care received. I have requested a call from Dr Akerson but his ‘LPN’ makes his medical decisions and refuses to honor my request. I made this request in July of 2021 and was refused access to him. I have a difficult time with an ‘LPN’ (who possesses NO degree) determining how my medical care is handled. Doctors take an oath to do no harm…UNMC doctors obviously do not have to abide by such on oath. I put all my faith in UNMC doctors 18 years ago battling stage 3 breast cancer…the experience was comforting and felt I’d receive that same level of care…hardly!!!

Excellent first visit

Dr. Jeffery Akerson has assisted me through diabetes condition, 2 stroke episodes, and other personal medical questions way above & beyond what I've expected a doctor to do. I am nothing but pleased with having him attend to my medical needs!

Dr. Akerson is great. Really glad he is my son and I's new primary care physician.

Dr. Akerson took the time while I was in the hospital to explain things and showed concern about my condition, even though he was not my regular primary care physician. He is very good.

On first visit, doctor and nurses seemed to write down my medical history and listen to the testing I wanted and needed. However, the wrong testing was done (after I had fasted, too!) Then, I found it impossible to reschedule, or even get emails, messages or calls returned. The message was very clear that no one there cared enough to do their job. At this point, I have been tested and have a medical irregularity, it's been months, and I can get ZERO response from this office. It's always.."We'll follow up with you later" or "I have no record of your repeated requests". When I mention my medical history(again), it is met with surprise. Honestly, I'm very easy to deal with and very proactive .... I'm a good patient. This office just does not follow professional standards of conduct .

MY attempts to make contact with this office following a screwed up appointment have been met with many hangups after being placed on hold for long periods of time, and non-returned messages and emails. My primary reason for coming in was to get an A1C and cholesterol tests taken. As such, I had fasted for well over 15 hours. I was told condescendingly when I asked about them that "I would have needed to fast for that" to which I replied, "I did". In spite of that fact, these tests were not included in my workup and when I called back to inquire, I was hung up on several times after being put on hold and did not have messages returned. I sent a message and was again told that I would have need to fast for that, and since my blood sugar was tested and was okay, I didn't need that test. I hardly think a blood sugar test is the equivalent of an A1C test. Finally, a RECEPTIONIST in the office building who did not work directly for this office, took pity on me and ordered the lab work at a different hospital (for an extra fee, naturally) No one ever did return my repeated calls. Third and finally, my tests clearly indicated a hyperthyroid condition. There was no note of that, no message, no phone call, nothing. This does not give me much faith that my well-being is valued in their practice. In fact, I don't understand what has happened to simple common courtesy.

I saw Dr. Akerson in the Emergency Room @ ONeill , Ne He accurately diagnosed a Myocardial Infarction. His demeanor and expertise was critical in keeping me in the hospital long enough to get the correct enzyme levels. He may well have saved my life!
