Awful experience. Horrible and incorrect diagnosis.. would not recommend this physician.

An extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful doctor. I was very anxious about the steroid injection , he put me at ease and actually made me laugh. Before I knew it 5 years of back pain literally went away! I recommend Dr Frates to all my friends and family!

BEWARE OF DR. FREITAS AND HIS REFERRAL TO HIS FEMALE Physical Therapist in Bedford NH who is HEARTLESS. I DON'T WANT ANYONE ELSE TO BE SUBJECTED TO THIS CRUEL TREATMENT AND THEM DENY IT LATER. I needed physical therapy and Dr. Freitas put me with this woman physical therapist who used Ultrasound with ABSOLUTELY NO GEL, I didn't realize it at 1st but when I did, I mentioned it to Dr. Freitas that the therapist isn't using gel and he said it's okay! I now experience what I thought to be a heart attack but thankfully it wasn't! Hallelujah I'm now checking to see if it's my shoulder isn't messed up. If everything is OK with shoulder, let's see if it's Neurological and that kind of pain! I'll write another review about today's visit. I have been working with the Spine Institute for almost 10 years now. Dr. Frates took over my care when my other Doctor retired. I have had several visits with him and he has always been able to help me relieve the pain through several different sources. He is very patient friendly and helpful. My most recent procedure, the first in 10 years after exercise, medication, PT and preliminary tests proved to be very successful. So far for the first time in 10 years I am pain free and med free. I hope to have it continue, but Dr. Frates has helped me tremendously. Thank you.

If possible, I would give zero stars! While examining me, Frates seemed like he was in a rush to be done with me. He kept cutting me off as I was trying to describe my symptoms, and he seemed to be annoyed with me. At one point he barked, “just answer the questions yes or no!” I left that appointment feeling confused as to what I had done to irritate him, and feeling that he did not have the time for me, nor was he interested in listening to me. He concluded that my problem was probably my SI joint and prescribed a high dose of prednisone and ordered a steroid injection. Long story short, the prednisone spiked my blood pressure and the injection did nothing. Brought my husband to the follow up appointment and was treated better. However, husband and I concluded that Frates treated me like a hysterical woman who was exaggerating her pain. He started throwing out all sorts of things to try next: physical therapy - even though physical therapy made the pain worse, more prednisone, even though it spiked my blood pressure, muscle relaxants, and an epidural with the diagnosis that "it could be" a small tear in something at the L5. I didn't catch the name, but he said it wouldn't show up on the MRI. Turns out he misdiagnosed me both times. I had a steroid injection for nothing and would've had a second one if my brilliant chiropractor hadn't picked out the problem on the MRI - an anomaly that Frates looked at and ignored. Also, the desk help is atrociously rude both on the phone and in person. My chiropractor recommended a different provider to me and they are awesome. I am now being treated with respect and compassion from all the staff and physicians that are working with me.

When I first met Dr frates, he was a very friendly and easy going person and felt comfortable and relaxed with him.I thought he did his job very well in my situation

Went for a visit with this doctor today, 1. He didnt know why I was there 2. He asked me if I had seen any other doctors after naming the doctor who referred me. When asked if he meant other than the referring doctor, he responded with, ok so you've seen another doctor. 3. Any response over 5 syllables long resulted in him interrupting, telling me to answer in yes or no responses, as though you can with back injuries. 4. He behaved as though I was an inconvenience and seemed to rush me.

Dr Frates is very caring, has time for my concerns and each procedure has succeeded. He is a kin, excellent neurologist.

Has zero compassion. Does not listen at all. Interrupts and hurries to next question. I told him I'm trying to explain to you what's been going on for 3 years, he said, just yes/no answers and we will talk about the rest later. How do you answer yes/no to questions that arent yes/no answer. I felt rushed, intimidated, sad, unheard and hopeless when I left. I'm still feeling very upset about my visit. Kept offering prescriptions. When I said I'm trying to avoid advil 3 times a day because of headaches and blood pressure, he said it's a give or take. And said advil doesnt cause headaches. I dont agree, when I stopped taking 12 a day for 3 years, my headaches went away. Offered me gabapentin even when it's on my allergy list. I dont trust him!

Was suffering with back pain for months!!! Referred by another doctor to Dr. Frates . After a simple procedure at Catholic Medical Center. I have little to NO pain.
