Kenneth R. Shuman's Online Review Report Card

Always friendly and honest!

I have been a patient at the Durham Family Health clinic with Dr Kenneth Shuman as my primary care physician for +/-10 years, and have found the clinic and it's staff to be very pleasant, professional and responsive. Throughout this time Dr. Shuman has been my primary care physician, and I have found him to be excellent. He is thorough, listens carefully and takes seriously any issues you discuss with him. He is also very pleasant and very professional in his manner. I don't know why anyone would only give one star as I saw another reviewer did. Further, I believe myself to be a tough evaluator, and Dr. Shuman and the clinic pass with flying colors.

I think Doctor Shuman is great. I drive an hour to go to him at least once a year. He spends a good amount of time with each patient. I love his shirts and ties too!

He does come off as friendly - only when you may check as I had to do you find his notes did not match the words or impression he gave you. He will say he will do something - then he drags his feet causing much potential problems if you if you have a deadline - the deadline does not seem to register on his agenda. He is unapologetic about his neglect of deadlines - Reminds me of a spoiled child that is not happy if he has to do something he doesn't want to do. He will seem friendly, say yes to requests, but you may find you are spending many hours trying to get that request fulfilled.

What he tells you face to face is not what I found was in my file. He complains if having to work with insurance rules - promises to do paperwork but it takes many calls to get him to do the work - and then he seems to do a very bad job of it - so the insurance company will not accept the paperwork that is not fill out properly. Massive frustration, also leaves patient without needed supplies/equipment because the paperwork not done. Left feeling betrayed by my own doctor.

Spent a lot of time with me, asked a lot of questions, explained everything. I feel like I've found a really good doctor.

Dr. Shuman is very kind and welcoming when he enters his office. He always has a pleasant smile and greeting...not only for the patient (me) but also for whomever accompanies me (my husband.) He is a good listener, shows concern for my situation and explains in detail just what the best remedy will be. I am always very comfortable in his presence; and I thank God every day that we have found such a wonderful human being in the medical field. The office staff is friendly and efficient.

Doc Shuman limits the amount of patients he takes on, which means he spends more time with you. Great listener. Honest. Will tell you what he knows, but lacks the arrogance I've seen with so many other doctors who aren't secure enough to tell you when they don't know the answer.
