Compared to the two other orthopedic surgeons I met with, he didn’t just tell me what he saw on my MRI, he showed me. He turned his screen to me, and using the software, outlined my hip socket so I could see and understand my loss of cartilage, bone edema, and bone spurs. He personalized my visit, paying particular attention to my MS and how that could affect anesthesia and post op care. Oh, and access? He was able to see me in one week, and could schedule my surgery as soon as three weeks out. This is compared to the other surgeons who were six months out! And it’s not like he doesn’t have a fabulous track record or excellent credentials. He worked at Dartmouth for over 10 years teaching and publishing. But he decided to go out on his own because he wanted to be the one doing the surgery, not some first year resident whom he was teaching. So be careful when choosing your surgeon, because many of them aren’t actually your surgeon. I can’t recommend him more highly!

Dr. Tomek replaced my right hip last August with great results. He is both a superb physician and a nice guy—an unusual combination in this day and age. I have recommended him repeatedly to many friends, all of whom have had great outcomes. He is thoughtful, informed, a great communicator, and at the top of his field.

Dr. Tomek did my reconstructive hip surgery in 2004 at Dartmouth. This is after the original surgery and first reconstructive surgery with another doctor failed. Needless to say I was scared. I was having other doctors tell me that I might limp the rest of my life and that the procedure was risky. When I went to see Dr. Tomek I was his next to last patient and he saw that I had a legal pad full of questions and he told me if I wanted to be his last patient he could take all the the time I needed to answer all my questions. So of course I said yes. He put me right at ease. He was confident that he could fix my problem. He was very patient with me and answered all my questions. His mannerisms and the answers to all my questions told me he genuinely cared and that was very important to me especially since my previous doctor told me doing reconstructive surgery is not the way he liked to make his living. I knew I did not want anybody cutting on me that didn't enjoy that work. When I told Dr. Tomek about this and asked what he felt..he said it is up to you what doctor you choose but please choose one who enjoys his work. He told me that on his surgery days he is excited because this is what he loves to do and I could feel it was true. I'm still going strong with my hip 15 years now. I recently had bilateral knee replacement with Dr. Tomek I have seen him for persistent knee injuries and arthritis for two years and non-surgical interventions were no longer satisfactory. The surgical experience with Dr. Tomek and his entire team was beyond excellent. The experience with Alice Peck Hospital Surgical was also fantastic. Highly recommend.

Dr. Tomek, his entire practice team, and Alice Peck Surgical have provided the most outstanding experience during my bilateral knee replacement surgery. First, Dr. Tomek is beyond gifted but he also spent time with me and my husband to help us understand the pros and cons and make an informed decision. His entire team goes out of their way to provide stellar service and care. The surgery and recovery and Alice Peck Hospital was unexpectedly wonderful. Top level professionals doing great work.

Not many doctors can be described as a "nice guy." This one certainly is. Oh, and I had a great outcome with 2 new hips.

Three months after my hip replacement surgery by Dr. Tomek at Alice Peck Day (APD) Hospital, my compliments to Dr. Tomek (and his physician assistant (PA) Sarah Liegl). I had both a great experience and result! Dr. Tomek and APD have a good and reassuring pre-surgery routine. The entire APD staff provided a pleasant small hospital experience! One overnight with delicious meals and minimal pain. Walked unaided a week later. Cost less than expected (plus a discount for paying bills promptly).

I've listened, for over the past 2 1/2 yrs., to my clients coming & going, about hip/knee surgeries, and heard over & over again, how pleased they all were with Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital, Lebanon, NH and their Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Ivan Tomek! Seems to me today, after having my hip replaced by Dr. Tomek, I made the right decision & I thank him & his staff very much.

Dr. Tomek did a total hip replacement on me. What a great job he and his team did! I will go back to him if the other one needs replacement! He and his team are the crème de la crème!
