I’ve gone to many appointments with Dr. Costello. When I was in 7th &8th grade I had pains in my hip. We went to him, found out my condition and I needed screws. This was when I was 12-13? and he was amazing! He even ‘went off’ on a nurse that disregarded I had screws and stapled incision! She rolled me on the side just operated on. Making his rounds, finding out what happened he found the nurse. Had a strict conversation. He said, “why would you ever roll someone over with a scar?” “I don’t want her on this floor! Or around any of my patients” apologized, removed her and I was on the proper treatment. Some 30 years later, I broke my foot. Went to a different doctor they let me have a shoe that was Velcro and had a shape of a wedged shoe just opposite. The ‘heel’ part is lifted and pointing up. The whole time reminding me of the lack of treatment. Went to Dr. Costello, I started healing with the foot because he put me in a boot and it healed without issue. Then repeated the same: other dr, then went toDr. Costello. The treatment was a brace, wheraz the last dr put me in a cast- my wrist was twisted and they said deal with it!. I would have been deformed if I continued on their treatment. Went back to Costello. The treatment he did helped my knuckle heel perfect! Where others in cast heal with their pinkey falling to the ring finger. Because of him I have a perfect fist that has healed perfectly. There is in no way shape or form that a gifted surgeon that tackles medicine the right was. I ALWAYS recommend him to people. Unflrtunetly he is about 1 hr away. I would go on the drive because his knowledge and creative treatments and current ideas make him the best Orthopedic Specialist in NH! I’ve gone to many appointments with Dr. Costello. Dr.Costello was very professional, and very compassionate. He took the time to explain everything, show the X-rays (a very bad break) and listened to my concerns, of which there were plenty. He didn’t rush through our visit, which I appreciated, and I felt he truly cared. Highly recommend!
He's more concerned about himself than his patients. I've never been treated worse in my entire life.
I first met dr Costello in ‘92 for a genetic hip problem, I had screws put in. The next year I had my other hip done. In 2014 I had a boxers fracture that a local orthopedic tried to treat by casting it all wrong. I drove the 45 min to dr Costello n he removed the cast n treated it appropriately. I would have ended up with my pinky finger crooked due to this prior dr. After Costello’s treatment u cannot tell I had an injury. I broke a foot went to the local orthopedic AGAIN(I should have known). I had nonstop pain as it healed. AGAIN went to dr Costello, got a aircast boot- looked like a ski boot! It corrected the other doctors mistake and fixed mine perfectly. Since I have my mom, grandmother go to him only! I grab a stack of cards from his office n tell everyone in my area to see him! Yes it’s a drive but you’ll get the best care. What’s best is he won’t suggest surgery if not needed. He tries all other possibilities b4 surgery. Where my local orthopedic suggests surgery for anything to make the money. Dr Costello is a realist n his patients are everything to him. He will exhaust all other means he can before sending u in the or. If you need surgery this is the doctor u want! I cannot stress enough about our 20+ year of patient doctor relationship. I value it! He is the best in NH. N it’s been proven!
First, this department has changed and I'm attempting to rectify information. George W. Costello, MD, Thomas W. Rock, MD, and Timothy O'Brien, MPH, PA-C, are included in this group. My experience is with Dr. Rock and it is worthy of discussion. I am a transplant from Massachusetts and I had total left hip replaced at New England Baptist in 2005 by Dr. Howard D. Martin (now retired). When I arrived in New Hampshire, my right hip was getting progressively worse. I could return to Boston, but was uncertain about my prospects in NH. Consequently, I contacted Dr. Martin and suggested that I seek out Tom Rock. Why? Tom and Howard had attended Dartmouth Medical School together. Tom finished at Yale. He has been an orthopedic surgeon for more than 30 years. My faith was in Dr. Rock and for good reason. Tom Rock is the epitome of an outstanding orthopedic surgeon. Why? Because Tom has an effervescent personality and I cannot begin to quantify his orthopedic skills. Needless to say, Dr. Rock has a long surgical history and he simply excels. Consequently, I would recommend Dr. Rock without any reservations. First, this department has changed and I'm attempting to rectify information. George W. Costello, MD, Thomas W. My orthodontist Dr since I moved to NH! Has worked on my knees and even replaced one and fixed an old scar at the same time from other idiot Drs in Boston who were supposed to be so great! If I need replacement on my other knee. I would never go anywhere else. AND he's a great guy. Takes time to chat a bit and never just runs in and out. Set my broken arm/wrist with expert care.
I had an accident in January of this year severely fracturing my left ankle. Dr. Costello performed an open reduction, and aside from some remaining stiffness six months later, my recovery has been excellent. This accident occurred during a winter vacation at our second home. After meeting Skip Costello, I felt I would be well cared for and knew the surgery would be successful.
He is very caring and an excellent surgeon. Pretty amazing for a small hospital
Many years ago my husband and I had surgery by him, both of us are not right. I would never go to him again!!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
