Paul Vessa's Online Review Report Card

I not fully recovered from surgery that Dr Vessa did on me back in Oct. 2020. I was told I was having a dissectomy before I went to sleep woke up and they told me they did something different. I did PT from Nov to February. He told me in June of 2021 after still having numbest in my foot it would get better with time. It's not getting better. He doesn't participate with any insurance so be careful in that department. He didn't get paid what he was expecting from my insurance so now he has left me with a huge bill. His nurse Susan was really nasty to me one day on the phone. Not what I expected from his professionals. Let's just say I'm very disappointed in this whole office with my case. All they seem to care about now is money and not how the patient is feeling.

Where do I even start. Well for one, Dr. Vessa is a miracle worker. Dr. Vessa is the “Leonardo DaVinci of Spines”, blending science and art into his procedures that end in a masterpiece for the patient (myself included!). By way of background, I was referred to Dr. Vessa by a work colleague after a severely botched (and borderline medical practice) mis-diagnosis by other “qualified” (yeah…right) doctors in Stamford, CT and I came to Dr. Vessa fresh out of trips to the Emergency Room, PT (that wasn’t working) and multiple visits to Radiology labs (from which my MRIs were also botched). I was in mind-numbing, crippling pain and my left arm was wasting away in atrophy. I wasn’t sleeping. I was barely eating. I could barely walk around the room and drive a car. I was a dead-man-walking with no end in sight. Then came Dr. Vessa and his OUTSTANDING team around him (Mary, Joanne, Sue, Nancy, Carlene, among others, - THANK YOU Ladies!!!!) to pull me out of the mental and physical abyss I had been suffering in for several months. Dr. Vessa and his team quickly diagnosed the problem (actually 2 problems - a busted disc at C-7/T-1 and nerve entrapment at the elbow) that my other previous doctors had completely missed! Their attention to detail was astounding and they left no stone unturned. Moreover, I felt more like a member of their family that they were trying to help, and not just some routine patient with an account # (which I had unfortunately grown used to from my previous CT doctors). The feeling is hard to describe, as they knew and empathized with how badly I had been hurting over the last several months and genuinely wanted to fix me. And it showed. A week later, my disc replacement surgery went impeccably, with zero complications and pure 100% upside benefit with instant pain relief. The following week, I had elbow surgery and then I was back in business. I was expecting medical leave from work to last months, but Dr. Vessa’s masterful performance and his team’s thorough follow-up care got me back to work in only a couple weeks. Other than minor pain from surgical incisions, I essentially had ZERO pain immediately after surgery. Truly astounding. I owe my health and happiness to Dr. Vessa and his team. If you live in the Tri-State area, do not even bother with seeing any other doctors in NY/NJ/CT as he and his team will run circles around them. And if you don’t live in the Tri-State area, then hop on a plane and see him. Your spine is too important to gamble on. Forget any second and third opinions - his opinion is the ONLY opinion that matters. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Dr. Vessa and thank you to the all-star team around you!

Dr. Vessa saved my life. 20 years ago at the age of 32, my back problems made life unbearable. Could hardly walk, couldn't being my feet for long and the amounts of medication being taken for pain wouldn't be good for anyone's liver. One same-day surgery, some recovery time and some physical therapy changed my life. Thank You Dr. Vessa, you saved my life.

My experience with Dr. Vessa was excellent. He took the time to explain his diagnosis and recommendations across several visits, understood my decision to seek a second opinion before surgery, and was very open about the risks involved and expected recovery time for surgery. The surgery was successful and without complication, and my rehabilitation was smooth. The staff was also very knowledgeable, caring, and proactive in explaining the costs involved. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Vessa and the practice.

Dr. Vessa is the best doctor ever. Diagnosed me with complete accuracy by doing simple test with no equipment. Then followed up with MRI that confirmed everything with pin point accuracy. Dr. Vessa is an extremely knowledgeable, dedicated, hard working physician. He gets to the root of the problem, and is dedicated to treating the patient as a whole. He gives great consideration to the lifestyle of his patients, and does everything he can to help restore that lifestyle. He looks for the most conservative treatment options to avoid surgery. My husband and I have both been treated by Dr. Vessa over the course of several years. Now our son has become his patient, and have the highest hopes of his healing under Dr. Vessa's care. We have placed our lives in his hands several times, and had restorative results. We hold him in the highest regard. Every aspect of our care was considered by him and his incredible staff, and they advocate for their patients with unending patience. I've had several spine surgeries over past 4 decades. I've seen "the best," from ortho docs at Hospital for Special Surgery to Mt Sinai to Beth Israel. Dr Vessa is hands down the best doctor/surgeon I've seen. His is whip smart and is not "scalpel happy" (so many docs immediately suggest surgery for my case). He will try everything before resorting to surgery. His staff is professional and caring.

I had been experiencing pain down the left side of my leg for almost two months. I was working with another DR, going through physical therapy, an injection with no relief. When I went to see Dr. Vessa I felt like he and his staff listened to what I was saying and acknowledged how much pain I was in. After reviewing my MRI and conducting some basic tests/analysis he recommended surgery to relieve the pressure on the nerve from my herniated disc. He was able to squeeze me in at 7 am the next day and assured me the pain would be gone. When I woke up after the surgery, the shooting pain in my leg was gone. The entire experience from my first conversation on the phone with them to the follow up visits after the surgery was a positive experience. I would definitely recommend Dr. Vessa and his staff to anyone with back pain/sciatica looking for relief.
