List of James M. Chimenti's Reviews
My 1st surgery in 2014, I was referred to Dr. Chimenti by another Dr. My 2nd surgery I knew I needed and took my mri to Dr. and he performed 2nd surgery on lower spine. I trust him 100%. My neck and back have been fine. I even brought my elderly dad to him for a consult. He was wonderful explaining to an 87 yr old a cervical issue. He spent an hour with us.
I Dont want to give 2 star to anyone in health care, but Dr Chimenti,i would like to give him .I went to him for second opinion for my back surgery, since He was in my area.I got 2 level lumbar fusion done on november 2019,since than I Have a poor quality of life ,left me more crippled than before. It was supposed to be 3 Hour surgery went for 8 hours and He said my family that surgery went well. The explaination was given that he was unable to do fusion from one side due to muscle thickness and he has to do another side so my rt and lt lumbar had a scars and metal and screws on each side.I fell x2 at home not knowing severe weakness of my one leg and had severe pain in one leg unbearable.admitted for 3 weeks in hospital and then i went for rehabilitation for another week. I Gave him 2 star due to my poor experience with him through the entire time ,poor communication, lack of sincere patient care, poor quality of service, dishonesty. The reason I am writing this review so nobody has to go through what I went through.I am still struggling with severe pain and not able to walk and seeing multiple doctors for pain .still doing Physical therapy till today.
Dr. Chimenti is a gracious, clear talking and most "patient-friendly" doctor I have ever met - and I've had quite a few doctors in my life. Dr. Chimenti was called in AFTER my first back operation (done by ANOTHER doctor) was deemed by me AND my first doctor as not successful after some 6 months. Dr. Chimenti spent more time with me during our FIRST consult than all the sessions (pre- and post-op) with my first doctor combined! The second operation required re-doing the first plus the introduction of additional screws, longer rods, etc. in my lumbar (spine). Its been a tough road dealing with pain, physical therapy, etc. I see Dr. Chimenti every 6 weeks or so, usually (to date) following an MRI or CAT scan to measure progress. It still amazes me that he'll spend typically 1 hour each followup sessions walking through the test results, observations on my ability to walk, etc. I must also add that his assistant, Janet Mitchell, is a god-send. Always available on the phone and a great front to Dr. Chimenti when he's not readily available due to a scheduled surgery, etc.
tis is the worse I have ever had the misfortune of being treated by
Dr. Chimenti has the best bedside manner that I have experienced. He is a skilled physician and gave me such comfort and calm prior to my surgery by patiently addressing all of my questions.
Excellent!! Dr Chimemti has performed 18 spinal surgeries on me between 2005 & 2017. He performed anterior & posterior fusions from L1-L5/S1 and from T6-T12 posterior fusions. He also removed two spinal fluid tumors and drained the spinal fluid. I also had 2 spinal cord stimulators installed but failed. He has done a lot of great things for me and never gave up on him and I will continue to use him because he is the very best.
I consider my laser back surgery to be a 100% success thanks to Dr. James Chimenti. Earlier this year, I herniated a disk in my back while coughing (yes it happens!). The horrific pain subsided in about two weeks, after which time I noticed I wasn't walking properly. I was suffering from drop foot, which requires immediate surgical intervention by a neurosurgeon or the damage can be permanent, leaving me unable to walk normally again. Thank goodness I was referred to Dr. Chimenti by RWJ Somerset ER and by my own family doctor. I saw him on Friday for the first time, when he reviewed my MRI and he made the surgery appointment for Tuesday, just 4 days later. There was no time to lose. Surgery was done on an out-patient basis. The surgery took about 1 hour, I was at the facility for about 3-4 hours in total and I walked out unassisted! I had minimal pain in recovery, I followed the regiment of physical therapy suggested, and I now continue with pilates to keep my core strong. My back is pain free and my drop foot and my balance are about 90% improved and still improving. I can't say enough good about Dr. Chimenti's quick diagnosis, recommended treatment plan, and surgical skill. So many people with back problems suffer without considering surgery and others have surgery and still have problems afterwards. I consider myself blessed to have been treated by Dr. Chimenti. If you are suffering with nerve issues in your back, I highly recommend that you call him to see what you can do to relieve your problem. I'm so happy that I did. Thank you Dr. Chimenti.
I had Dr. Chimenti perform a fusion in my neck from C3 to C6 in 2002. Back in 2015, I decided to have an MRI and a CT Scan because my neck was not feeling right. He highly disappointed me when I wanted to go in for a consultation because he originally did my neck fusion and he told the woman to tell me "Tell her to get a Fresh Opinion." Why could he not see me for a consultation? I was willing to pay for it. He really hurt me because he could not be bothered, even though it was 13 years later he should have seen what was bothering me. Does he do the job, and then never want to see you again, when your neck hurts 13 years later? He can't be bothered. Every time I ride by his office on Rt. 22 in Bridgewater, it makes me sick because he could have saved me a lot of time and money by not having to go to other doctors. This is a doctor that could not care about you once he does his surgery. I don't care if it's 3 months later or thirteen years later - he should have seen me for a consultation. He did the original surgery. Something is not right here. Think about this before your have surgery by him - to say - "tell her to get a fresh opinion". He doesn't want to be bothered with the mess up work!
Fantastic Doctor with great hands and Knowledge
One of the greatest surgeons and also a great person. I have been his patient for 14+years and i would recommend doctor Chimenti for any and all spine and brain procedures. He is one of the very best along with his partner doctor More.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
