Horrible outcome. Very into himself. Don't trust his smooth talking.

Showed pictures of results of deep flap surgery. Breasts are two large balls of fat and my stomach is constantly in pain.

Great Doctor with great bed side matters. He is vert professional in his work. I was a patient in 2009 and I highly recommand him. Wish he was still practicing in Maine.

As a micro vascular plastic surgeon he did an amazing job reconstructing my 2 breasts from belly fat tissue. However, he is NOT a cosmetic surgeon. I needed some revision and naturally went back to him. This is not his forte! Consult with a COSMETIC surgeon for revisions!

I went to my post ok appt. With Dr. Bonawitz 1 week post op. Even tho my drains were putting out 40-50 cc's he wanted to take them out. The last drain he was pulling and pulling. The drain snapped in 1/2 therefore leaving part of it in my body. He sent me home with an antibiotic. I woke up that night in extreme pain. My mascectomied breast was the size of a cantaloupe. So infected. Had to have a 2nd surgery to remove drain. Now I have an infection that will take months to heal.

His office is a scheduling nightmare. Worst I've ever experienced. Plan to have your surgery date changed with no warning, and your other appointments changed with very little notice. I only found out my surgery date changed when I called to confirm it. Having cancer is challenging enough without the stress of poor communication and frustration with his office. Do yourself a favor and find a different surgeon.

The only thing he lacks is the God-like complex most surgeons have. Very skilled, compassionate, and overall wonderful doctor.

When my Husband read the review by the woman written on September20, 2016......He thought I had written it. I too had failed flap surgery at UPenn . I might add that the failed side was not performed as the diep flap that I had gone to this plastic surgeon for. The diep flap side survived. I believe I was a teaching opportunity that went wrong. I was deformed. My insurance company actually suggested I see Dr. Bonawitz. From the start I knew he would do all he could to return the failed flap side to a breast. He has done more than that. As Dr. Bonawitz warned it has taken patience and a few surgeries..... But my breasts now look and feel like my own. It took his skill to get the mess made at UPenn to match. I recently saw another Dr. for another minor issue and he saw my reconstruction. He politely ask if I minded if another Dr.could take a look. They both agreed they had never seen such beautiful reconstruction... ever.....And they had seen quite a bit. Dr. Bonawitz is a nice person too..... A bonus!!

I have never been seen a doctor that was so ignorate. I went to this toolbag seeking information on a breast reduction. He asked me two questions "what size I am? What size I see myself?" After I answered he went on for 30 minutes about how my bmi is too high and he doesn't touch patients over 35 bmi. Told me to get a second opinion and a consult with the bariatrics. I left in tears so embarrassed. Maybe he should have his appointments screened better. I will NEVER recommend this so called dr.

My bilateral diep flap was done in Phila at HUP where I had a mediocre to poor result. Plus, the surgeons there lied to me several times.I went to Dr. Bonawitz in Cooper Univ. Hospital for 2 revisions. The fat grafting didn't work 100%, but there is an improvement. I have never met such a caring, physician who spends as much time as is needed and NEVER has one foot out the door. He is truly exceptional.
