Monica Atkinson's Online Review Report Card

As a professional in the healthcare field with a doctorate in clinical pharmacy, I have never worked with a physician with lack of empathy and understanding as Dr. Atkinson. Her pride is insane clouding her patient care. I have been on my SSRI for 6 months with titrating doses every 2ish months. I had run out of my current dose mid December and sent a refill request to the clinic. Dr. Atkinson sent a refill to my local pharmacy for a 30 day supply. My insurance rejected the refill as I had reached 6 months of 30 day supply refills and it now needed to be a 90 day supply for complete coverage, or I would have to pay out of pocket for a maintenance medication. It was over 1.5-2 weeks of constant messaging with the clinic on changing this to 90 day supply and Dr. Atkinson refused as her policy was to only fill 30 days at a time due to concerns for suicidal ideation (which I do not have and have had no history of). I was out of my SSRI by almost 2 weeks with yet a follow-up message or phone call from the clinic or Dr. Atkinson. As an MD, I am sure she is aware that abruptly stopping a SSRI can cause rebound anxiety and depressive episodes as the Neuro hormones are now suddenly unregulated. I was at this point where I decided to pay out of pocket for the 30 day supply and was when I FINALLY had a telemedicine appointment with her requesting 1) an increase in dosage which was not a priority since I just needed my medication 2) a request for a 90 day supply refill. Dr. Atkinson proceeded to tell me that she cannot do either and that I should be grateful she was even prescribing me my antidepressant as a continuation of medication therapy from a prior provider. When asked if she or her clinic will then call insurance to provide override of why a 90 day supply is not allowed, she continued to say yes but I will need to be seen in person first. When I mentioned I had to pay out of pocket, she said well that is a much cheaper option than paying cost for a psychiatrist. It was at that point I ended the video call and called patient relations who never got back to me. I am an educated and intelligent individual and I truly have seen great physicians work in a primary care setting with empathy, understanding, and use of their clinical knowledge that if a chronic medication is suddenly stopped, rebound symptoms may occur and can be detrimental for the patient. Dr. Atkinson is not one of those physicians and I will absolutely regard her as a malpracticing physician. I would HIGHLY recommended changing to a different provider if you are ultimately scheduled with her to avoid stress, uncertainty, and lack of appropriate patient care.

Monica, in my opinion, is a very knowledgeable doctor to our modern day health concerns. She ordered a few tests that no other doctors were aware about to address my health concern. I highly recommend this doctor from Cooper health.

Needless to say say not empathetic with my situation nor my needs as a patient.

My mom had her and she is the worst doctor she ever had. She never checks on her the way she needed to. My mom complains of anything it was automatically her weight. She never got back to her she never refilled her medication on time making my mom have to withdraw from certain ones. She had no care at all for my moms well being..WOULD NEVER RECCOMEND HER!!!

Dr. Atkinson spends alot of time with me. She offers her medical expertise and advice. She makes me feel comfortable, no matter what the problem.

Won’t listen, won’t answer, won’t see me again.
