I went to Baig my primary care doctor to set up a physical appt and to get help for insomnia and stress. I told her all the pressure I was under but it would be temporary. The issue was was that I could not sleep. She prescribed Xanax which made me dizzy and I could not take it. So she immediately gave me 21 .5 mg of clonazepam and told me not to take them at night or just do half of one. She said I would be addicted and all I wanted was to get a good nights sleep for a while to deal the family issues that were being resolved. Well I called her back and never talked to her but told the triage nurse that it was not helping me to sleep. Now this is going on two weeks. And you know what Dr Baig told her - that she couldn't help me. She had already given me two prescriptions and one I could not even use that horrible Xanax. Then I was told go find someone else to handle this. I was like What?!? Isn't she my doctor? I mean not every prescription is right. They told me to go to the crisis center like I had a mental illness. Her nurse didn't even want to give a referral to any type of MD. I said who do I know that can help me? I was told me to call my insurance. I was so upset that the were treating me, of course a Black woman, like I was some type of drug addict and mental case. I really liked Dr. Baig. But I think implicit bias is real and if you are of color I mean Black and require a little help during a hard moment in life- do not go to Dr. Baig. I have never had a physician treat me like I was nothing during a real time of needing a bit of sleep. I told her nurse that I will not be returning. I then was lucky enough to see a different doctor who completely understood and prescribed something to get me to sleep that I know will work. That is a physician!!! My new primary care physician. Dr. Baig I am so offended and off put by your lack of knowledge and compassion and doctor/patient communication skill. Sincerely Jennifer W. who has a Ph.D in Health Communication.
