Yuna Rapoport's Online Review Report Card

I first met Dr. Yuna Rapoport at an Upper West Side clinic in early 2020, naively thinking I could get a quick prescription for a new pair of eyeglasses. In 20-20 hindsight, it was luck of the draw to be assigned to Dr. Rapoport that particular day. Her professional demeanor, initial analysis and laconic dialogue exuded one conclusion: she is all about giving the best eye healthcare for any individual lucky enough to be her patient. She scheduled a follow up exam at her shared 5th Avenue office. She took specific optical machine scans and tests with machines unavailable at the clinic. I was ushered to her private office, which displayed multiple degrees and advanced training from prestigious institutions, such as NorthWestern University, Harvard Medical School, Vanderbilt Eye Institute of Tennessee, along with a plethora of articles depicting professional accomplishments. I learned she did ophthalmology research, worked and pioneered global outreach in disadvantaged communities in India, Nepal and Ghana. She informed me I had cataracts in both eyes with a slight astigmatism in one. I asked her one question, "Why would an ophthalmologist of your calibre work at these clinics?" Her response was simple,"To help people like you." She is not only a highly educated, experienced and skilled powerhouse of an ophthalmologist, but an unassuming humbled one that really cares for each patient's eye health, no matter one's origin. All scheduled non-emergency procedures were canceled in New York during the 2020 pandemic. As soon as mitigations were in place, like wearing masks, covid shots, and limited scheduled patients, Dr. Rapoport called me directly to try and schedule surgery. It was certainly not a lack of discipline and ethics on her part during the pandemic that I was unable to proceed with the surgeries until May 2023. Today, she has her own private office aptly located across the backside of the famed Carnegie Hall building on West 56th Street. The remodeled modern interior sits just behind the pre-war waiting room. It's aesthetically painted a calm slate grey and white, outfitted with state-of-the-art optical machines made for today's eye care challenges. These highly advanced technological machines are magnificent. I nicknamed one machine the Eyesight Zone because of its neon red concentric circles. It yields precision scans necessary for cataract procedures plus more I imagine. Her spectacular A-Team, include raspy voiced, sharp as a tack Tracy, cool as beans top-notch production star Stephanie and all-hands afternoon Aya--all three managing the busy frontline from morning into early evening. They are the finely tuned musical bars of a well rehearsed medical chorus, supporting Dr. Rapoport's masterful symphony with diligence and business grace. Stephanie explained details and options for my upcoming procedures via one-on-one thorough conversations. Dr. Rapoport's enthusiastic and competent Queens and City College interns, Ryan & Bryan, acknowledged their jeweled apprenticeships working under a Master's coveted umbrella.My right eye cataract procedure at the outsourced Hudson Yards Surgical Center went flawlessly. This team, along with Dr. Rapoport, included Alejandra at reception and a focused Emory College educated I.C.U. nurse named Eric who filled in for the detailed prep. An adept anesthesiologist, Dr. Millan, reviewed my medical history so he can properly administer the exact dosage for sedation (not general anesthesia). His narrated adobo recipe "floated" me because it tweaked the Filipino national dish by using his homemade pineapple vinegar. Genius. But the pièce de résistance was Dr. Rapoport's deft cataract surgery execution, maneuvering expert hand and eye coordination like a concerto maestro. She has eyes of a black panther. Magnetic yellow, keen and precision tuned, together with unwavering hands of a futuristic robot. With my head strapped while lying underneath the lasik machine, I heard Rapoport's calming voice, repeatedly saying, "Breathe in through your nose, breath out through your mouth. Great, you're doing great," like the consummate composer she is. She expertly rid my right eye of the cataract cloud, coordinating a kaleidoscopic light show, simultaneously inserting a multi-faceted lens with expertise. I had to ask if she put it in. That's how seamless and painless her professional cataract surgery felt with what seemed like mere minutes.After taking off the plastic eye patch the next day at my post-op appointment, I was already seeing in revitalized and vibrant technicolor. My kid now calls me a Cyborg and I will repeat the procedure for my left eye in one week. I can't wait for fully restored high resolution with both eyes. "I'll be back," I chuckled.Thank you Dr. Rapoport, the A-Team, her 2023 interns and the Hudson Yards Surgical Center team. I am truly grateful.

This is an insurance billing mill. They basically throw in as many unnecessary tests as possible and do not give you the option to decline them even when I explained that my insurance would not cover them because I had a full eye exam less than a year ago and only one per year is covered. The technician said that my insurance would cover it but as someone who has dealt with my insurance company for over five years I'm not sure why he felt he had any basis for this opinion. I came in for a stye but they amazingly felt I needed dilation and pictures of my cornea, a glaucoma test, and more. (I left at the point - after glaucoma before dilation for cornea pictures.). Oh - and lab tech started appointment by putting unknown drops in my eyes which I should have pushed back on but did not. Lab tech never even told me what the drops were or purpose of them.

Not only was I overcharged $300+ for services that I did not receive, I requested my contact prescription (to get it refilled) and instead of sending standard PDF (that I can take to any eye provider) they sent me the DR's scribbles on a paper. Meaning it was unusable and I had to go to another eye provider.I have semi been able to resolve the billing issue, however they wouldn't fully credit me - so I've given up and am paying despite not receiving the alleged services. The only positive thing I've experienced about this place is that the receptionist is beyond kind and willing to help. But you can't do much with only one great person and a broken system.

Dr. Rapoport is hands down the best and extremely professional - from the initial consult to the actual day of the surgery, she was super attentive and reassured me every step of the way to keep me calm and comfortable. The procedure itself went so smoothly, zero pain, and I was done in 20 minutes. And now I can see perfectly!! SMILE is seriously life changing and I highly recommend getting it done with Manhattan Eye. They were very good with following up, making sure I had all the prescriptions ahead of time, and gave me clear instructions for pre and post care.I did NOT have any issues with long wait times, bad support staff, or billing issues that some of these other reviews mentioned... I would endorse Dr. Rapoport wholeheartedly!

I can't speak about the doctor and technicians. However, the receptionists are rude and racists. They do not treat all people the same.

She's highly knowledgeable, helped my dry eyes but unless you absolutely demand to go over results, you won't know what's going on w/ your health. I had blood vessel issues behind my eyes related to high blood pressure in June I only learned about in December. I wish I'd known so I could have discussed w/ my cardiologist & PCP. Took 2 months to get a copy of complete records. Her handwriting's illegible so you need to go over them with her: doesn't have typed visit summaries. Tracey on her staff is excellent & a sweetheart. Emmanuel, her assistant is a little rude & keeps asking if you remember.

I understand doctors are overworked. Key to relief is to say no when you're overworked and overbook. The outcome - low customer satisfaction. More attention to wait times is needed. The longer a patient waits, the more obvious the patient is in the wrong place. I work in global finance and a 6:15p appointment does not mean a 7:15p appointment. Fix the problem, not the blame and do something extra (even a follow up reason for them leaving a scheduled appointment) to let the customer knows you care about them (not only their insurance).

Dr. Rapoport is a first-class doctor. I am a long-term patient, and am very grateful for her.

I don't ever write a review. My experience at this place has been AWFUL! The lab techs are completely uninformed. After I explained to the tech doing my intake that I'm here because I'm diabetic, have to get an annual eye exam, and am looking to establish new care as a patient because I moved from Chicago and need an eye doctor in New York now, he asked me if I need a new prescription. I said no, and he said "well do you have any symptoms?" I told him no. He said "I have to write SOMETHING."I said to write what I had just said, and he said that wouldn't qualify. What??He didn't know either of the names of two eye drops I take -- one prescription eye drop (Xiidra) and then one OTC (Optase).Then he put dilating eye drops in my eyes without informing me that that is what he was doing. One of these burned my right eye. I asked him for a numbing agent and he said he didn't have one.Onward to the two IDIOTS doing my lab tests. One of them was in training, and got my eyes mixed up while doing my tests. Twice!!! She performed the test wrong (didn't ask me to cover either eye) and the other tech had to come in and do it properly. They also spent my entire eye test session loudly whispering and gossiping about the rest of the office to each other which was highly distracting.This place is run by unprofessional morons and I cannot in good conscience recommend going here. Take your vision needs elsewhere!

I feel lucky to have found Dr. Rapoport and her office after several doctors who I felt like were just trying to make money and weren't actually helpful! I have very dry eyes that had started to make my contacts unbearable; she laid out all the options and performed PRK. The office is busy and there's often a wait, but I feel great about my results and my visits.
