Awful experience in office with doctors bedside manner and even worse experience with the person who does scheduling for surgeries “Vicky”. Ive been in pain for months and have had insurance issues preventing me from getting surgery. More than once I’ve called to work out self-pay and she refuses to listen or help yet claims to have been “so helpful”. I’ve been pulling teeth getting information from her and I’ve finally given up. I wouldn’t trust this office based solely on her representation of the practice. Instead of scheduling me appointments during a phone call she wanted to argue about supposedly being “hung up on” last time she called me. Worry not, because “everything is documented” according to Vicky! I personally believe if you don’t have compassion or the want to help people, you shouldn’t work in health care. Let’s hope I can get my gallbladder out before it becomes an emergency situation. Thanks Dr.Bello’s office!

Oops - just realized I'm on the wrong page - This review is for his brother, John! So read on if you want to know about JOHN BELLO. First of all, I think Dr. Bello is a great surgeon. The problem with him is communication and aftercare. He did my colon surgery 3 years ago and did a very good job. However, I became infected after the fact - I could tell, because I was feverish and in pain, and he seemed to be angry at me for taking my temperature. Also, the post-op instructions were given to me by him, orally, while I was still in the hospital on I assume large doses of pain medication. As for diet, I was told to look it up on the web. What I'm saying is, WRITE THAT STUFF DOWN for your patients. Or hire someone to write it down for you. I just had my port removed by him yesterday, and was reminded of his poor bedside manner again - he does not like to be given questions or unsolicited information from his patients, or if he does, he doesn't react to them well. I appreciate that surgeons probably need to separate from their patients, emotionally, and that is fine, but get a good support staff to make up for your deficits in that department. It is important.

Direct no BS to the point. Saved my life!!

This doctor was a nightmare to be under the care of. Caused physical, emotional and mental damage due to incompetence and downright rude behavior.

Dr. Bello performed my gallbladder removal at Hunterdon Hospital. From the consultation through surgery, Dr. Bello and his staff were wonderful. He has a very comforting and confident way about him, I knew I was in good hands.

Second "rendezvous" with Dr. Joseph Bello. Would highly recommend him as a surgeon!

Dr. Bello is a surgeon with skill, compassion and the ability to understand his patient as a whole person. He is an excellent example of humanism in medicine. Each step of the way, Dr. Bello leaves no question unanswered. His patients are in capable and kind hands.

Dr. Bello performed my mother's colon re-section, cancer removal on two occasions. Once when she was 70 and again recently at 85 years old. He was extremely comforting, provides a sense of confidence and trust with a sense of humor. Visited her every day and even called her directly in her hospital room on his day off. As far as I am concerned, he has saved my Mother's life on two occasions and I would use him personally for a surgical procedure at HMC. He is very thorough and pro-active.
