Lewis Wetstein's Online Review Report Card

My Mom went to Community Medical Center for a stroke she had where she met Wetstein. Wetstein came in for around 3 minutes to tell my mom that she needed a loop recorder. Wetstein ordered she should not eat the day of surgery. The next day Wetstein came in at 5pm for around 3 minutes to say she didn't need the surgery because the other doctor told him so. She has diabetes and went 14 hours total without eating. She had no insulin the day of surgery and her sugar ended up going too high. We ended up getting a bill for $1,000 for which he claims he had to fill out paperwork and look over reports. We thought the bill wasn't appropriate and didn't have the money to pay it otherwise. He was out of network from Blue Cross Blue Shield and I have no idea why he was allowed to come in to visit my mom in the first place. He pushes unneeded surgeries that he most likely knows you don't need trying to get money. Wetstein is unprofessional, doesn't have a care in the world, and is greedy, he will do anything to get more money. I can't believe he is still licensed and is a Dr, after everyone's experience with him. He's the type of guy that would see a homeless person drop $5 and take it. Stay far away from this guy, refuse his care and ask for someone else to treat you. If you have been treated by Wetstein and have a similar experience with ours or other reviewers on other websites please file a complaint and report him for fraud. Let's bring an end to his malpractices, we need numerous reports to do so. I'm sure he can also be sued for the scams he is doing and wouldn't be able to practice medicine any longer if we all came together. Update: Charged $14 interest on our $25 payments for his bill which was not agreed upon. Said after we paid him he would submit the bill to Medicare, hasn't done so. Ended up needing a surgery he said my mom didn't need. REPORT TO MEDICAL BOARD!

This man is a disgrace! He did an emergency surgery on my mom 15 years ago! She did not choose him! He wouldn’t take her insurance (BCBS excellent insurance that was accepted everywhere else) and sued her for $7000. She passed away last year and I discovered this judgement when selling her house. He not only wanted every penny but added $2,000 in interest! I’m hearing this is common practice for him! He refuses insurance and sues the patients! It should be criminal for a doctor to be this way!

Another Emergency Room patient here with a minor pneumothorax that closed itself after a night's stay at the hospital. Dr. Wetstein apparently looked at my chest scans but he provided no other service as none was needed. I saw this doctor for under ten minutes total. Of the four doctors I spoke to in ER, I saw Wetstein the least. Despite being paid by line item by the insurance company, Dr. Wetstein is also fraudulently billing me over $1000. I am a Medicaid patient. He legally cannot bill me for this "remainder" he claims is due to him. He has received phone calls from my insurance company as well as mailed a Cease Billing Letter. He has ignored them and I have to answer to a non-jury trial in small claims court coming up soon. This man is the worst.

Worst experience of our lives. Did a procedure on my mother came in to see her once after. Got paid from insurance then sued my 91 year old parents for 1200 more complete filth . Stay away I can’t believe he is still practicing. His office if you want to call it an office. Is disgusting, dirty old and smelly

That may be true of him but his skills as a surgeon saved my life. When you have lung cancer that is that matters.

I would NEVER tell anyone to go to this quack. He has absolutely no bedside manner, no sense of humor whatsoever. If you don't pay your bill immediately, he sues you. I was in the hospital when I received the first notice to appear in court. I called him immediately and I made a payment plan with him, paid it all off and then he sued me again for the court fees. I went to court to fight it, and ended up with a mediator talking me into settling for half. I wrote the check and told Wetstein to drop dead on my way out of the mediation room. He spends all day sitting in the courtroom waiting for each of his cases to be called. I couldn't believe my eyes. He doesn't even use a collection agency. He literally sits there all day suing his patients for payment. A real low life.

Got a bill for a procedure done on my mother who ended up dying 5 days later. Outrageous bill sent out of nowhere and summons to court for non payment. Looks like he does this with every single patient. Tried to call him direct but only in office 4 hours a week and never called back. After hours of wasted time and months of back and forth the Insurance company said the Doc never sent in the proper forms to be reimbursed by the insurance company. So the reason he didn't get paid was his fault. I'm sure he does this because he can charge someone off the street $20,000 but someone with insurance he will only get reimbursed $2000 by the carrier. So why go through the insurance company when there's a chance he can hit the jackpot? If someone has the money they may think that's a "normal" bill and pay him. One of the many insurance people I talked to said "oh, yeah, we know this guy--he does this all the time" $8,000 he was looking for got knocked down to $800 by the insurance company. I think he does this just hoping people will pay the bills. How is this not against the law?

Giving this physician 1-star, is a compliment. After being misdiagnosed at Jersey Shore hospital with a collapsed lung, I was called back by the attending physician. She advised me that my scans were NEVER READ, and I would need to come back for an emergency chest tube. She then informed me that Dr. Wetstein was on call at the time, 2 am, and he would be performing my procedure. Dr. Wetstein explained to my mom and I that I had blebs in my lungs, along with a collapsed lung and he would have to do two procedures. One to remove the cysts. One to reflate my lung. After a long agonizing procedure deflating my lung, he told my mom he was going to now fix the blebs. She would not let this happen, because the radiologist who found my pneumothorax mentioned nothing about it. The following morning, Dr. Wetstein came to “check on me”. He failed to look at my wound, drainage or any part of me. He did not even touch me. He was just insistent on the fact that he had to remove my “blebs

After firing him from my case, a pulmonologist came in to examine me. He informed me that I did not, and never did have blebs. He would have performed an unnecessary procedure to open me up. Doctor after doctor told me that this man should not have a medical license. He left me with a wound that looked like a gun shot. Do not let him near your family! This man is horrible! He should not be a medical professional. Save yourself / your family the PTSD
