I went to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for a thoracentesis. The admin staff was welcoming, warm, and friendly. The nursing staff was beyond exemplary. I was prepped for the procedure and the nurse said the doctor was on his way and would be there momentarily. Forty minutes later I was still prepped and the doctor had not arrived. I am old and have arthritis in my back and hips and I was sitting in an awkward position. Needless to say I was in pain. I got a nurse to help me stand up to relieve the pain and I stood for close to 15 minutes before the doctor finally arrived. He did not say anything and I did not see him. He gave me a couple of quick shots of lidocaine and immediately inserted the drainage needle. That HURT! It got quiet behind me so I asked who was there and what they were doing. It was a nurse connecting the tubes to the bottle. The doctor was gone. If I need this procedure again I will go somewhere else!
