Dr. Cudworth saved my life, he is 1 of the best and I just want to thank him. Good bedside manner and he's very honest with you!!

Do NOT trust this physician with your, or your families health. He was my mothers surgeon, and we lost her 2 days after her appendectomy, performed by Dr. Cudworth. He told us after her surgery that he made a mistake a cut an artery during surgery and needed to call for help from a superior to control the bleed. While he sat with my siblings and I to explain what happened, he said to us “Your mom had such a bad infection so any other surgeon would have made the same mistake because there was no visibility” He repeated to us several times that it wasn’t a planned part of surgery, and it was an error, but was unavoidable. It left us all feeling so uncomfortable, and as if something was being hidden from us. Months after my mom passed away, we requested her medical records so we could try to understand what happened to her. We received a response from Clara Mass regarding the operative report stating, “These records cannot be provided for the following reasons: An operative report was not dictated for this service.” It made me sick to my stomach. Not only did Dr. Cudworth verbally admit to my siblings and I that he made an error in surgery, he lacked compassion as he explained it, only concerned that we “understood” that he didn’t think “any other surgeon would have been able to avoid the mistake.” Then after making the error in surgery, he did not even dictate an operative report. There is now no way for my siblings and I to ever know what happened in that surgery, and no way to know if our mom would still be alive today if a more experienced surgeon worked on her. I do not recommend Dr. Cudworth under any circumstances. It wasn’t until my mother had passed away that I learned how inexperienced he was, and that he was in no way qualified to perform an appendectomy on a woman who had a previous liver transplant and multiple surgeries. By the time the bleed that Dr. Cudworth caused was brought under control by another physician later that night, it was too late, and the liver my brother donated to her 19 months earlier, was in failure, and the rest of her organs were beginning to fail as well. We will never fully know what happened in that operating room, and I would hate for any other family to experience the loss that we experienced, and then not even be able to get access to the operative report to try and understand what happened. One of the worst parts of our experience with Dr. Cudworth as we were losing our mom, was that he lacked compassion when speaking to us about her surgery and care. The constant need to tell us that it was an error “any other surgeon would have made” left us all feeling uneasy, and in need of understanding what had happened. But we can never fully understand what happened in that surgery, or why Dr. Cudworth, a bariatric surgeon, was assigned to perform an appendectomy on a patient that had a previous liver transplant, and several other surgeries. We will never know if the outcome would have been different had my mother been in a better facility, with a more experienced surgeon. Dr. Cudworth should not be performing complex surgeries on patients with such an extensive medical history, when he has such little experience. Clara Mass, and Dr. Cudworth had the responsibility to be sure an experienced surgeon was working on my mother, and to be sure they read her complete medical history. After my mom was already on life support, and too unstable to transport, we were told by the hospital and physicians that they unfortunately did not have the equipment to handle the level of care my mother needed. If they lacked the equipment needed to treat a patient in my mother’s condition, she should have been transferred to a higher care facility before anyone ever cut into her. The hospital had a responsibility to request an experienced surgeon for my mothers care, and they failed to do that. Dr. Cudworth had the responsibility to read her full medical history and know that this was a more complex surgery, and he was not yet qualified to perform it. My mom was sick, so there is no way to know if a more experienced surgeon would have changed the outcome, but it does not mean that both Dr. Cudworth and Clara Maas didn’t fail to provide her with the proper care. The failure to write an operative report alone is a major violation of medical standards of care.

Dr Cudworth was my husband's surgeon. He is a patient's best gift! Yes, he is young and he surpassed all of our expectations! An intelligent, professional, caring and empathetic doctor! He was always available during my husband's difficult journey to recovery (via telephone, texts, and in person visits at the hospital). Very encouraging! Honest and clear diagnoses and clear updates.
