Dr Safran is an outstanding physician and surgeon. In addition to his own local patients, he is referred some of the most challenging cases in ophthalmology by colleagues both nationally and internationally, who recognize his surgical talents and way of practice. Dr Safran will always take the time to explain things, always gives his honest opinion and will always do what’s best for his patients. He is up to date on the most modern medicine, he’s pioneered surgical techniques and leads the way in the field of ophthalmology, teaching, lecturing and helping not only his patients, but other physicians. Lastly, Dr Safran is really he is a surgeons surgeon. I am an ophthalmologist and corneal specialist myself and I not only refer complex patients to him from upstate NY, but I also brought my father to have surgery with him. Patients in his care should feel confident and secure in that the are in excellent hands and are getting the best care possible.

They facilitated every step, ensuring that all arrangements, from appointments to post-operative care, were seamless. In the medical community, Dr. Safran is held in exceptionally high esteem by his peers. I have an exceedingly complicated situation with my left eye due to a traumatic cataract situation back when I was 15 years old. I’m now 50+ and had to have a lens implant replaced, A Dsek, and a vitrectomy. Not many physicians would even take this on. Dr. Safran was amazing and the result was incredible. I would not hesitate to utilize him for any eye procedure. He is comfortable performing. His office is crowded, sometimes wait times can be crazy but that’s a small price to pay considering what’s at stake.

Dr. Steven Safran is one of the best anterior segment surgeons in world. Patients come from all over the country and the world to for his expertise when they are having difficulty from prior surgery. I have sent him numerous patients with cataract complications, who have been expertly repaired by him. I also refer him patients , who just want the best cataract surgeon that I know and are willing to travel for his superb surgical skills. I would personally let Dr. Safran operate on me. My recommendation should carry a lot of weight, because I am an ophthalmologist who practices in the New York metropolitan area.

My husband, Jay, is the patient but we are writing a joint review because we are both eternally grateful to Dr. Safran for his brilliant repair of Jay's complicated eye problem. Jay is a retired Dermatologist who noted the sudden onset of cloudy blurred vision in his right eye. Needless to say this rendered daily tasks very difficult. His local Ophthalmologist diagnosed dislocation of the lens implant from previous cataract surgery and referred Jay to see Dr. Safran who is world renowned for the surgical correction of such complex eye problems. Dr. Safran and his staff answered all of Jay's many questions throughout his care including the management of his glaucoma. Dr. Safran performed Jay's surgery recently and repositioned the existing lens restoring his normal vision. Dr. Safran is truly a gifted surgeon and one of the most caring physicians that we have ever consulted. Thank you Dr. Safran: you are the best!

Dr. Safran is the best of the best. He has the unique combination of great surgical talent and a legitimate concern for his patients’ outcomes. I traveled across the country to have Dr. Safran perform an IOL exchange, and I could not be more grateful for the excellent work that he and his entire office did to help me. Ophthalmology has become very specialized, with individual doctors becoming experts in, for example, cataract surgery, retina surgery, glaucoma, surgery, iris repair, etc. Dr. Safran is skilled in all of these surgical subspecialties. This broad skill set has allowed him to treat complicated surgical problems that most other eye surgeons would not feel comfortable attempting. While his skill set is not totally unique, it is quite rare, and I would consider him one of the 10 or so best ophthalmic surgeons in the country.
