I was referred to Dr. Patel by Dr. Goldberg and told he was a 'laser specialist.' He told me I had an inherited, degenerative eye disease called Fuchs Dystrophy and could be blind in 10 or 15 years. Ay age 66, this came as quite a surprise. He prescribed expensive eye drops ($450/month) that Medicare/HBCBS was in no mood to pay for. Fortunately for me, a friend told me about Wells Eye Hospital. After the most thorough eye exam I have ever had, they told me I had a mild case of Fuchs and could simply use OTC drops. I kept a previously made appointment with Dr. Patel a few months later and, to my surprise, he told me one of my eyes had degraded about 10% and asked me, 'which one?' 'Which one?!" What a quack! But here's the kicker! I had to have surgery for cancer on my eyelid this week and mentioned the Fuchs and Dr. Patel saying that I was going blind. The doctor's response, '0h, he's awful!' When is the last time you heard a doctor give an honest opinion about another doctor?
