If your little one needs surgery.. I highly recommend Dr. McCollum! He got us in same day and my son’s surgery took place within a week. His office staff was great. He and Stephanie spent a lot of time with me answering all of my questions and making sure I felt comfortable with everything that was going to happen. He checked in many times while we were in the hospital and we always felt like our little guy was in good hands. I would trust him with any future surgery needs for my children.
My wife and I cannot thank Dr. McCollum and his staff enough for the professional and caring treatment they showed us and our son. Ten weeks old and our boy needed surgery for not one but two hernias. As first time parents our anxiety was through the roof. Dr. McCollum put us at ease the very first time we met him at the consultation. The day of the surgery both he and nurse Stephanie personally came out to greet us and again calm our nerves. He even took the time out on Monday morning, the weekend following the surgery, to call us personally to check in on our little man. This type of gentle and personal care made a difference to us and we are extremely happen our pediatrician recommended him.
This office is great!!! Dr M & Stephanie were awesome. I am happy this is the office we choose to go with. Dr. M & Stephanie answered all of our questions and kept us very informed. I cried handing my infant son off for surgery, and Stephanie took the time to hug & comfort me & assure me everything would be fine. Everytime we came to the office, Dorris was very friendly and polite. I’m very thankful for everyone at this office. You guys rock!!
A week ago today, our daughter needed surgery. I contacted Island Pediatrics from the emergency room of Baptist Primary Care and spoke with Dr. Hall. Within minutes, she had contacted a surgeon, Dr. McCollum, who then contacted me within another few minutes to advise that he had arranged for a bed and surgery within a couple of hours at Orange Park Hospital. We arrived at his office by the Orange Park Hospital complex, where he explained the procedure and the arrangements he and his wonderful assistant Stephanie had made. Stephanie walked us over to registration and within minutes we were brought up to our daughters' room, where a set of wonderful nurses, Megan and Haleigh, prepared her for surgery. Dr. McCollum and Stephanie met with us both before and after the surgery to ensure we had everything we needed. Everything went like clock work. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for their assistance in helping us expedite matters. Many heartfelt thanks for all that they have done. Sincerely the Nieves family.
My son's appendix ruptured at memorial , they gave me a choice of wolfson's children's hospital or Orange Park memorial , I knew from previous experiences that Orange Park had the better surgeons . Dr. Mark McCollum was more than a good surgeon his bedside manner made me feel that him and his staff really cares about the outcome of your family . Thank you so much !
Doctor McCollum took wonderful care of my son with his emergency surgery!
We have never had an experience like this in a hospital. Dr. McCollum and his team were kind, compassionate, professional and thorough. We would highly recommend Orange Park for your Child’s care.
Great surgeon. Wonderful person! Helped our family through very difficult time. Ultimately our child did well due to the attention and excellent care provided by Dr. McCollum
Wow! I know this statement to be slander. Granted everyone has their right to their own opinion. However, my children first encountered this Professional early in their life under the guidance of his mentor whom at that time was a well respected chief of staff at children's before his retirement in 2003. That same doctor saved my children's life as 29 week preemies with a diagnosis of NEC which I was advised is the worst condition a premier could have because they usually would die. This man that you say disregards babies not only took over my twins care after the chief surgeon retired and worked with a staff of present and currently chiefs of staff, was also indeed an active advocate of my very small children and one of them who didn't actually grow until two major life saving surgeries with no hope but a prose in his own spirit that maybe they could feed her and she would survive because she and her sister were NICU patients for a year plus combined. I found it quite fascinating since we were black and however you have a teen daughter. Do you even understand the dynamics of a NICU patient that has been in the hospital for longer than a month and their survival rate? Because if you do than your comment in regards to the other doctors in his practice being cool more so than him sounds quite foolish indeed. I say this because my daughter was not only his care for five years but every surgeon whom was on call when HE needed to rest. So honestly, I don't know maybe he just discriminated against you and your grandson and your teen daughter. Or maybe it's just your guilt and hidden shame about your teen daughter and your grandson, or maybe you need to check his track record but be careful when you do because you just might find that your the only one on that ship. Good news is HE is your life jacket.
Wow, with that last comment. Especially when this man was mentored by the chief of staff whom also was the first surgeon to save my twin 29 weekers preemies that had a diagnosis of NEC and spent a combined time in the NICU of a year plus, worked with the best staff at Akron Surgical Pediatrics, was my surgeon for aprx. five years, and saved her life numerous times amongst being an active advocate on her life where it concerned her care. The sad part is that you say it is because she was a teen mom, and my child is BLACK! Your right it must be or gotta be discrimination or else your not the most truthful individual! Either way, God bless.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
