List of Scott Schoifet's Reviews
You may notice a few sites with only positive, 5 star reviews for Dr. Scott Schoifet. Don't be fooled.....he has put up some sites where he "cherry picks" only the 5 star reviews....such as Orthopedic Reviews, Reconstructive Orthopedics ---go to other sites for real reviews !!
. I came to Dr Schoifet after injuring my left knee playing Pickleball. I tried other treatments first, such as injections and physical therapy. They did not yield positive results, so I consulted an orthopedic surgeon at another practice, and he recommended surgery. I came to Dr Schoifet for a second opinion consult. Dr Schoifet noted the damage also and that surgery was my only option. I opted to stay with Dr. Schoifet. Dr Schoifet performed a total knee replacement in late July. It has now been 7 months and I am worse now than before the surgery. My knee is extremely stiff, I cannot bend past 90 degrees, I experience sharp, stabbing pains all the time, and the joint is loose, and makes “crunching and clunking sounds”. Dr. Schoifet has attempted to address my issue in several ways , but none have proved effective. He first said he suspected scar tissue, so he performed a procedure called a MUA. That did nothing to improve my knee. He then said that I may have an infection in the knee. Blood work showed no infection. I then had an MRI done and it showed some necrosis of the bone, a tear in the patellar tendon and some fluid accumulation. Dr. Schoifet dismissed all of those findings, and he claimed, without any basis, that the Doctor who read the MRI images and issued the report thought my knee replacement was ten years old. I later confirmed with SJRA that the radiologist knew that the knee replacement was only several months old. Next, Dr Schoifet claimed that the reason my knee hurt so much was that I had a pinched nerve in my back. I underwent an MRI of my back. Of course at my age, 75, it did show some moderate compression of some discs. I underwent a procedure with another doctor for a spinal injection which according to Dr. Schoifet would relieve the pain in my knee. Well, that did not work either. Dr. Schoifet said he was not going to do anything else and that “our relationship is over” and I should go find another doctor. He even claimed in a post visit note, that “he did not plan on doing any further intervention” and that I have a “well-functioning , noninfectious knee”. I have never experienced such indifference from a doctor. I have never had a doctor fundamentally give up and tell me to go elsewhere. Dr. Schoifet acted in a dismissive and arrogant manner and completely disregarded my pain and refused to take any responsibility for what is obviously a flawed outcome. I am now left practically “crippled” in my left leg. I cannot resume any semblance of my previous life. I was previously very active; played a vigorous sport 3 times a week, rode a bike, hiked, and worked out, now I can hardly walk across my apartment.

He also ignored the results of an MRI which showed some issues. ln December he basically told me that I have a "well functioning knee" and that he is not doing any further intervention.
I had left knee replacement in January of 2022 and have had a great result. Immediatley after i awoke from surgery Dr. Schoifet had me sliding my knee back and other simple exercises which i religiously continued at home and at my two week check-up the Physician assistant and Physical therapist were shocked at how ell I was doing with upto 130% ability to bend the knee. He does stop PT aftef 6 weeks which i found odd but i continued on my own and have had a great recovery.
I had both my knees replaced in 2007 and have had no problems whatsoever since. I even fell several times on both my knees really hard and thank God have had no problems. Dr Schoifet was an answer to my prayers. I recommend him to everyone who needs knee replacement surgery.
Best performance and encouragement ever! I refer everybody to him!
Selected scott schoifet from past experience with a relative in 2020 After waiting 3 months for appointment. After a 2 hour wait his nurse perforned exam. Half hour later he refused to operate based on nurse exam. Said I am unlikely candidate...my condition is not severe enough at age 70. Told me to exercise. 2 years later, I revisited him in 2022. After 2.75 hour wait, he refused again saying my condition is now too severe at age 72 based on nurse's exam again! Without evidence he presumed I had a neurogical condition "such as MS" as reason I would not recover from tkr. 6 months later my neurological tests elsewhere showed no MS or similar deficits that would prevent surgery or hinder recovery. I had successful tkr elsewhere. Schoiet lacks people skills or compassion and only selects easy patients so he can brag success. He was disinterested and dismissive of my concerns and walked out of exam room directing me to the cashier.
My experience was Horrible wouldn’t let me get a MRI told me knee was fine!! Finally I found another Doctor and had MRI showed Bone on Bone with Full Meniscus Tear and all compartments of the knee Destroyed. He also said pain was coming from my back.Glad I’m Not using him for my Knee Replacement!!! He needs to Stop playing God! And should actually look in my file the MRI is there!
I'm not typically a person who writes reviews, but I feel my experience with Dr. Schoifet needs to be noted, especially as most of his reviews are 5 star positive. Is this because everyone is accepting his arrogance because of his surgical reputation? On Christmas Eve, the day after my first visit with Dr. Schoifet, I tore the meniscus in my knee. I did not call the dr. because it was the holidays and I thought i could tough it out. I did not know (my fault I should have checked) that Reconstructive Ortho had their own UC. Because I was in so much pain and could hardly walk by Jan. 9 (waiting for my new insurance card contributed to me waiting so long) my daughter took me to Rothman UC. I won't go into details about Rothman aside from saying they did put me out of work on disability, and they did listen and were respectful. The only reason I did not stay with Rothman, was because Dr. Schoifet was highly recommended by someone who's opinion I respect so my mind was set on him doing any necessary surgery. After being discharged and going back to work, I went to my next appointment with Dr. Schoifet. I explained all that had happened to the nurse. I heard her telling him outside the exam room about me going to Rothman UC, and I could hear Dr. S whispering and laughing with the nurse but not what he said. Considering what happened afterward, I can only assume his whispering was about Rothman and me going there. He came into the room with an attitude. He made several disparaging remarks about Rothman which I found very unprofessional. He told me I did not tear my meniscus, in spite of the MRI results saying otherwise, but rather I "hurt my knee" because I am "weak" which he repeated several times. He has no idea what I do for a job, but it involves pushing heavy wheelchairs. When I told him doing that hurts my knees he said, "It shouldn't," which is true, and why I was going to him for help. Later when my knee buckled he told me to use a cane. I told him I can't use a cane at work so he said, "Lean on a wheelchair" and laughed. I could go on, but I will end this by saying I left that office feeling angry and humiliated. He was arrogant, unprofessional and rude. He may have a reputation as a great surgeon, but he absolutely needs help with his professional manner, listening skills and arrogance. While I agree with his strength building before surgery program, his condescending attitude is insulting.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
