I worked with Michael in the West Orange location. I wanted to express my sincere and heartfelt gratitude for all of his help. Words feel inadequate to truly convey how much his assistance has meant to me and my family. He didn't just provide support; he howed genuine care and compassion. It was clear from our interactions that he is truly passionate about his clients, and that passion made all the difference. In a time when I felt lost and overwhelmed, Michael was a steady hand, guiding me and helping me get back on my feet. His follow-up, his attentiveness, and his unwavering support were invaluable. He didn't just do his job; he went above and beyond, demonstrating a level of empathy and dedication that is truly rare. I am still getting on my feet and his ph call the other day made a world of difference to me, you have no idea. Michael, you made me feel seen and heard, and that's a gift I won't soon forget. I'm so grateful for your kindness and your commitment to helping people. Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart. You've made a real difference in my life. Best, Latasha
in the previous post, it was indicated that if you are dealing With this location, you should run, Please do listen I think that the staff that will be interacting with you as a counsel or therapist is extremely Disrespectful and unprofessional. I waited for almost a month for an appointment. I explained Using the analogy that if I’m talking about retirement, I don’t want a therapist that is totally out of touch with what that experience is. I also indicated that I would like to be counted by someone who is familiar with people of color or have dealt with them some form of experience about their background. All of a sudden, I was contacted and told that I was paired with some young fresh out of college intern, And not offered a waitlist, then told that there are absolutely no appointments at this location. She used the word “ help me” in this rhetorical manner that was condescending. I was already giving info to call a location in East Orange, which I took as her being nicely yt in sending me to thst location. Tara claimed to have 11yrs under her belt, I guess She missed the part on not arguing with the client. She was hissing at me as if i were trying to harm her, when all i was trying to do i’s get help. Anyway, she did me a favor, how can you help me when you can’t control your own emotion. IF YOUR FEELING SUICIDAL OR HOMICIDAL, DONT RUN INTO TARA, Who closed the conversation with the hangup. UNPROFESSIONAL💯
The GROUP THERAPY sessions here are something you can really count on. People in the group tend to be the same faces, and it's great that we've been able to form sort of a bond and connection, so sessions are like conversations with people who can relate to what you're experiencing. If my review were made solely on 1:1 therapy, this would be a one-star review. First, a male receptionist told me they weren't accepting patients, and no sliding scale was offered, therefore no insurance = no treatment. When I spoke with someone in-person about this, she shared that was incorrect information. I was called within the week after filling out an intake form. There's a younger sounding female receptionist who is friendly enough vs an older woman who sits to the right of the door (around the wall), who is so rude. I played phone tag for WEEKS with Tara, who refused to connect with me via email or text to schedule a phone consultation. When we did finally connect, she asked me questions and then cut me off because I was "talking too much" and she "didn't have time." We scheduled an in-person appointment, which I followed up earlier in the morning to confirm, and she changed the time twice, within the hour beforehand. Needless to say, it's an absolute nightmare trying to work with this staff. Based on other reviews/comments, this is typical of staff/therapists here. I dodged a bullet. *Note: There is also a TINY, like 5 car parking lot in the back, so you are SOL on that front.
The office staff was so kind and understanding of my needs and helped with services and got me into their center of behavioral health. After placing that call on Friday, I was assigned to my therapist, Heather. Unlike other past experiences, Heather in many ways was far superior compared to my formal psychologist. Heather listened to my needs right when we started and made me feel comfortable to the point, I was willing to discuss aspects of my life that I did not feel comfortable ever talking about to my formal psychologist. I was able to grow and develop a deeper sense of insight. It is hard to imagine fifteen months ago, I started working with Heather. I have gained so much insight into my problems and now coping with my symptoms of depression much better. I am very much grateful for my experiences at the MHA, truly one of the best mental health clinics in the tri state area.

I don’t usually write reviews but I feel like this was necessary as this is a place for mental health… I have been a patient here for a while. My therapist left so I was able to continue therapy with heather. We had a few sessions and I was feeling hopeful. My mom got sick and was in hospital for a while and then I had to take her to appointments and things were hectic (I also had a baby a few months ago), and I missed a few sessions. Heather knew everything going on with me and my family, and knew how hard it was for me. She dropped me as a patient and told me to come back when I had more time and didn’t have so much going on??? HAVE YOU EVER BEEN DROPPED BY A THERAPIST FOR HAVING TOO MUCH GOING ON???? That should have been the time she was there for me the most!! I was shocked. She just kept saying “ok we’ll cancel now and pick back up whether it’s weeks or months” like what????? You know I’m going through probably the worst time in my life and you drop me because I missed a few sessions because I had to take my sick mother to hospitals and doctors for tests??? So unprofessional and I’ll never return here again.
Great place with great people who care.
Run Run Run far away from this place. This place is very unprofessional. I waited almost One month and no one ever called me back. I went into the office and spoke with David he advised Heather was in a meeting and would call me back. I waited hours and Heather never called me back. When I called back to find out why A rather rude David was nonchalant and said this isn't the only place for Behavioral Health! Wow the response, attitude and treatment is repulsive and alarming.
This place rocks....went there for therapy...Barbara Brownsword, Vivian, Fern, the psychiatrist....excellent professional help! God Bless them.
Great group of people who really care about their clients and community. Fern the front desk manager is very kind and thoughtful!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
