Dr. Liu is an amazing brain surgeon. He removed lesions from my brain. It was a six (6) hour surgery. I was in St. Barnabas Hospital Livingston, NJ for 4 days. I cannot begin to express my appreciation for his skillful talent. Not only did he remove all of the lesions successfully, but I am not experiencing any pain or scaring whatsoever. I followed all of the instructions that I was given and made sure that I took all of my medication as prescribed. I am now at home and taking it easy. I am also able to drive now. I make sure that I go outside for walks every day to keep my legs and body strong and in good shape. I was not put on a strict diet I made sure that I ate healthy meals. Dr Liu's staff was very friendly and always returned my calls. Dr. Liu listened and answered all of my questions. My appointments were never rushed. I was provided in home care nursing visits to make sure that I was maintaining good health practices and to make sure that I was well. Dr. Liu is Amazing.

My mother is a patient at the Livingston location whose been diagnosed with a tumor at the base of her skull which has slowly and gradually caused unsteady gait. Currently she ambulates with a walker. She contacted the office to schedule her surgery in the beginning of September. Here we are six weeks later and no one has returned her call. I am now contacting the office only to be told there is a record/messages left however NO ONE from that office has responded to emails sent on 9/7 and 10/4. The last correspondence/email was sent to Rosa who I’m told is the office manager. Please help me make this make sense. I am utterly frustrated with how the lack of communication exists from the staff to management. Someone get in touch with me in a timely manner or I we will have to escalate this matter. UPDATE 10/15. Dr. Liu contacted me 10/14 and by the end of that conversation a plan was put in a place and happily she has been scheduled. Therefore I’ve updated this review. I wholeheartedly understand that things happen and items fall through the cracks. However, I just want it understood that you are only as strong as your weakest link. While the matter was resolved the bigger picture is that it didn’t have to happen.

Dr james Liu is My hero. I was diagnosed with a sinus cavernous meningioma brain tumor that narrowed my carotid artery and sat 2 centimeters away from my right optical eye nerve and was tangled with all major artery’s and blood vessels in November 13, 2019 and in August 1, 2022 i have been under the care of Dr Liu since my diagnosis i under went radiation cyber knife how ever my tumor was stable but my carotid artery was narrowed I had and emergency cerebral by pass performed by Dr Liu, and I must say we often hear people say we all have and Angel who protects us and cares for us who was heaven sent well mines is Dr James Liu Dr Liu saved my life when his hand was forced to perform my emergency cerebral by pass he saved my life not only did he save my life but he took in to consideration that i a mother of 5 girls and amongst them I have a 3 year old he new my daughters needed me and he did everything in his power to ensure that my daughters would have there Mother back home and In there lives, I and my family are so great ful to have him in our side thank you Dr James Liu for giving me and my family hope again 🙏

I was diagnosed with a cerebral spinal fluid leak that required a craniotomy to fix the underlying issue. This was very unexpected and scary for me once I heard it required this type of surgery. From the first time I spoke with Dr. Liu I felt more at ease and knew I was in good hands. He made himself available for any questions or concerns I had leading up to the procedure. Dr. Liu performed a resection of skull base encephalocele of the temporal bone and repair of skull base defect and csf leak at Saint Barnabas Medical Center/Rutgers Neurosurgery. There was no leak recurrence and I retained normal facial nerve function after the procedure. Dr. Liu is an amazing Neurosurgeon. He is caring and kind and goes above and beyond for his patients, I would highly recommend him to anyone in need. I consider myself very lucky to have had Dr. Liu in my corner.

Not only did he remove the neuroma successfully, but there was no indication of any facial paralysis, which can be common after a surgery of this type. Dr. Liu uses a technique that preserves the facial nerves and everything turned out beautifully. I only have high praise for Dr. Liu and his skills.

Dr. Liu is an amazing neurosurgeon. He listened to my concerns with kindness and compassion. He operated on my father to remove a brainstem cavernous malformation located in the midbrain and thalamus. We had been told by other doctors an operation was not an option. Dr. Liu was able to successfully remove the cavernous malformation and my father is recovering. Dr. Liu followed up with me on my father’s progress from surgery to rehab to post op appointment.
