You can never predict, anticipate or plan the moment or circumstances that you are going to first encounter the person who saves your life. For me it was when I was told that I had suffered from a stroke and that the cause was a tear in my carotid artery that would likely require surgery to be repaired. That horrible life altering message was immediately followed up with the reassuring words, “don’t worry we have called Doctor Chancellor who is on her way and she is the best”. Doctor Chancellor arrived at my bedside while I was scared, confused and in pain. During the next 3 weeks she acted as my guardian angel. Dr. Chancellor patiently and consistently explained my situation, potential courses of action and reassured me. She was never rushed, always made herself available, and was able to convey complex situations and decisions in a manner that I could understand. Just as importantly, Dr. Chancellor clearly has the technical medical experience and education to make her decisions. She is extremely well respected amongst her peers (we sought second opinions and were assured we were in great hands), her academic and professional credentials are world class, and she was able to discuss my unique circumstance relative to numerous other patients in her care. She was cautious and methodical in her approach leaving surgical intervention as a last option. Most importantly when no other option was available she successfully performed delicate and complicated life saving surgery on me. She is a wonderful person, extremely thoughtful doctor and highly talented and meticulous surgeon who saved my life.
