List of Ruby Sampson's Reviews
Dr. Sampson is very caring, listens and takes her time with each patient. The wait is very long but well worth it. I would much rather have to wait a few hours for a doctor who cares about my health and well being rather than be rushed along with a doctor that doesn't care about anything except collecting.
Dr. Sampson is a comforting doctor full of kindness, patience, knowledge and skill. She takes time with her patients which may account for some of the office wait.
Had an appointment set for 6:30 pm, arrived at 6:15 to fill out paperwork. 9:00 pm hits and I still haven’t been seen, asked how long the wait would be because I had to pick up my fiancé at 9:30, was told the wait would be longer than a half an hour. Completely unprofessional. Won’t be returning.
It was a pleasure getting my colonoscopy procedure done by Dr. Ruby Sampson and staff at the West Orange location, everyone was professional, courteous and pleasant. Dr. Sampson was the only Dr on duty with quite a few patients therefore i had to wait for a little longer than my scheduled time. The Dr and staff were very apologetic and maintained a positive attitude. When i got to the operating room Dr Sampson personally apologized again for the wait. It was suprising when i received a courtesy call from Dr. Sampson's staff at about 9:30pm after my procedure earlier that day, following up to be sure i was doing ok after the procedure, i was very please to know a Doctor and staff take the extra step to show they care about their clients safety and wellness. A few years ago i had this procedure done by someone else at another location and did not receive any follow up call, i really appreciate the call. After my experience I would truly recommend Dr. Sampson and staff to a friend or family member, i will also get this procedure done here again.
This was my 2nd visit to Dr. Sampson. I chose to give her a 2nd chance after my first experience 3 years ago. Although she may be a good/qualified physician her extremely LATE (2 hours) arrival for the scheduled office visits and also extremely LATE (2 hours) arrival for procedures I would not recommend. This time I actually left without being seen as I had already waited 1.5 hours beyond my appointment time and she was not even present in the office yet. I have never had this type of extreme lateness in any other physician office EVER, this is a complete lack of respect for my time and appears to be the routine practice of this provider, Dr. Ruby Sampson, who is listed as a gastroenterologist not a primary care provider in my Horizon provider list.
Wow. This dr truly needs help, she needs a team. I had an appointment at 8pm on a weds, I arrived at 7:45 because I knew as a new patient there may be forms to fill out, there were 5 people waiting. I filled out the forms and sat. An hr later, 9:03pm...I go ask the receptionist how much longer and she says a few more minutes...10:23pm I finally get called in. Once I'm in, the dr literally takes my information, name address, medical history, and schedules a colonoscopy for 1 month in the future! Is this a joke??? I waited over 2 hours for her to do that?!? I'm a very patient person and that's why I didn't leave, however this is absolutely unacceptable. If she doesn't trust the lady at the front desk to take down that info and fill it in for her then maybe she needs to re-interview and vet/background check someone new to do it. It doesn't matter how good of a dr she might be, over 2 hrs of waiting for 5 mins of taking down my info is unacceptable. I see other reviews from 4 years ago saying the wait time is long, so this is just the way she's run her office for years.
I had the unfortunate displeasure of visiting Dr. Sampson’s office on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. I arrived at 4:40 for my 4:45 appointment. I was called to an exam rom at 5:55 PM. After sitting there for another 30 minutes I decided to request a refund and leave. An hour and 45 minute wait is unacceptable and unprofessional. Dr. Ruby finally came out when she learned that I was leaving and requested a refund. She states that “I was about to come see you now” I conveyed that the wait time is unacceptable, I am a profession just as she is. I further indicated that I someone would have communicated and simply walked into the waiting room and said “good evening everyone please forgive us we are behind schedule, everyone here will be seen today” would have made a significant difference. I was just left sitting there as if I was forgotten about, especially when she said “I did not know you were here for an hour and forty minutes. That statement added insult to injury. Perhaps she should pay closer attention to her scheduled so that is not as full. I will not be going back.
Just called and the woman on the phone was so helpful and nice!
Finding it EXTREMELY BELIEVABLE that she currently ranks "3% lower than the national average based on her current Healthgrades rank of 67% in the area of "Patient experience rating" at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, NJ,
Very patient, caring and efficient. I love that so many of my great doctors are also patients of hers. The office staff is kind as well. I am grateful to have Dr Sampson overseeing my care.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
