List of Barry M. Cohen's Reviews
I was referred to Dr. Cohen by someone in my wife's office. I was being checked by my primary doctor as a formality to make sure I was OK to have a hernia procedure. I was told my EKG came back "funny" and need to check into it further. I went to cardiologist in the Livingston area who informed me I had an aortic aneurism. and would need surgery. I was shocked. I'm 62 years old. Never had any health issues. Always kept myself in good shape & never had any kind of surgery. I returned to this doctor a couple of times for follow up & a game plan. He was always very nice but never seemed to get the information on his screen correct. If he looked at it at all. I did not have a lot of faith in him & decided to try someone else. Hence, I ended up with Dr. Cohen who seemed a little stiff, (apparently from a pinched nerve), but very complete as far as his examination of my tests. Not a real bubbly guy but gave me a secure feeling. He concurred with the aortic aneurism and told me pretty directly my options & referred me to a heart surgeon who turned out to be fantastic. My follow up visits with Dr. Cohen were quick, friendly, efficient, & direct. His visit to me in the hospital just before & after my surgery were also comforting. He always pushes me for questions & truly seems concerned. His personality is a bit dry but does have a sense of humor & I did and do feel very comfortable with him. I believe his expertise is second to none. He helped make a very scary situation for me less intimidating.Chris WulfEast Hanover, N.J.
My mom was having issues with her heart. Her primary care doctor suggested Dr Cohen as he was supposed to have a great reputation at Atlantic Health which touts itself as the leader in Cardiology where she lives.I went with mom, and I am really glad I did. This doctor claims to be a great cardiologist who can fix her heart with these wonderful new medical procedures. For the life of me I can't imagine how this guy can hold a surgical instrument steady. He shakes worse than a paint mixing machine at home depot!I don't know if its Parkinson's, or just way too much coffee, or if he is a nervous wreck. It doesn't matter, no way he was going to be touching my mom with those shaky hands! Needless to say we went to a different doctor. For what its worth Dr Cohen might be better suited to go work in home depot in the paint department. They could save electricity costs and just hand him a bucket of paint. It will be mixed in no time!
I started as a patient with Dr. Cohen thirteen years ago, when I was only 32 years old. I suddenly had a stroke which resulted in a diagnosis of a heart defect. I did not have a Cardiologist at the time and met with many doctors for opinions. Dr. Cohen continues to be a personal hero of mine. He presented treatment options, helped fight insurance appeals, and maintained a calm presence I still rely on today. I highly recommend Dr. Cohen, and follow up with him regularly.
Dr Cohen has been treating me since I started seeing him in 1995. He diagnosed me with Ventricular Tachycardia when I was just 39 yrs old. Other doctors I saw prior to finding him told me to stop smoking and drinking coffee and I would be just fine. Good thing I didn't listen to them and found Dr Cohen... Who knows if I would still be alive 24 years later to write this review. He is extremely thorough and I wouldn't trust anyone else in this world with my heart.
Dr. Cohen is intelligent, caring, competent, thoughtful, patient, skillful, and personable. I have trusted him with interventions and rely on his counsel.
Take your loved to another practice, Dr. Cohen plays games and is looking to control the outcome of the patients lives as he so personally chooses. Notice the most recent review below this one is four years old. This guy is off the chart arrogant and incompassionate. And if you don't play his game, he will do nothing to help your loved one. The staff books multiple appointments for the same time and thinks nothing of having patients wait for hours on end to be seen. The last appointment with Dr. Cohen lasted for ten minutes. We traveled less than ten miles for the appointment, arrived on time, but waited hours to be seen. We arrived home nearly seven, yes, seven hours later. The office is extremely disorganized and Dr. Cohen could not care less. With a plethora of other hospitals and interventional cardiologists, why deal with that?
Dr. Cohen is extremely opinionated and abrupt. He is not a good surgeon and you should take your loved ones elsewhere. He may have been a better physician at one time, but has grown bitter and is not helpful. The office is extremely disorganized and it becomes a popularity game to be approved for procedures. They book ten to twelve patients for the identical appointment time and then have you wait for hours on end (not minutes). Who needs to deal with arrogance, when there are many other great facilities?
This entire practice had great doctors but Shareen, the girl who is responsible for getting approvals and referrals is horrible. She blatantly lies and never returns calls!
He is the consummate cardiologist. He has an air of intelligence and true concern. I trust his opinion and judgement that he has demonstrated in treating both my husband and I. Today he performed a serious procedure on my husband and really changed what could have been very catastrophic. I will eternally be indebted to him and want to thank him. He caused me to breathe a little lighter today.
I accompanied my 85 year old mother to see Dr.Cohen. I was extremely pleased with him. Many doctors are very impatient with elderly people and prefer to speak with me. He was extremely respectful of my mother, very knowledgeable and very thorough. He took his time, talked us through the situation and options and was the only doctor we have seen who repeatedly asked if we had any questions and not to be shy about asking anything. I highly recommend him.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
