Dr. Ahrens always takes time to be compassionate, caring and thorough. I trust him completely.

Dr Ahrens figured out in 2 visits what other drs and specialist could not for over 4 years.. years of testing, labs, X-rays, mris Frustration and misdiagnoses only took Dr Ahrens attentiveness and undivided attention for 2 visits - total of 2 hours.. outside the box thinking and my willingness to be open, listen and try what he suggested.. after a 4 week medication regime my suffering was over… absolutely can’t say enough good things about him..I’m a nurse and I’m rarely impressed by drs as time spent and listening skills lack.. I don’t expect compassion- but he has that as will as respect for you!

I came to this infectious disease practice because they came highly recommended not only by my urogynecologist but my my primary care physician. I have seen three of the infectious disease doctors in this practice. I still have zero answers as to why I am getting frequent infections despite being put on IV infusions for said infections. Here are some of the issues I encountered when dealing with the doctors. The first doctor I saw, Dr. D, seemed to not really understand my extensive urological history, but she did put me on a course of IV infusions, which left me symptom free for only eight days before another infection occurred. I then saw Dr. Ahrens due to getting another infection. Doctor Ahrens spent most of his time with me in the office googling my symptoms rather than listening to me and reviewing everything in my chart. Of recent, I got yet another infection and went to see yet another provider in the same office Dr. Galletto. Dr. Galetto put me on a medication for this infection, and as is industry practice and standard was to send out my urine for a culture which would then tell us not only what type of infection I have but what medication I would be susceptible to and what medication I would be resistant to. When phoning the office today I found out that Dr. Galleto decided not to send in for the urine culture despite the fact that he told me he would, and now that I am not having any improvement, he wants me to go for a culture and start a random medication to see if it will help. Problem one, I already started A random medication while waiting for the culture to come back. Problem number two, if I go for a culture now the culture will most definitely be skewed because I am on a medication even though the medication is not working. The absolute recklessness of patient care compounded by the obvious inept doctors is completely mind blowing. This is basic urology 101, a patient comes in with an infection and you send the urine out for a culture. I would except this sort of careless and reckless uneducated thought process from perhaps a walk in clinic. I would not expect this from an infectious disease specialist. The fact that this doctor WHO is trained in infectious disease did not feel that a common urine culture is required to diagnose a patient is very scary. I have already spoken to the doctors that have referred me to this practice to let them know about the sheer negligence and inappropriate practices of these doctors. I am seeking additional care from another infectious disease specialist who understands the very basics that if a patient comes in with an infection, you have to do a urine culture. I have never been so disappointed by the lack of intelligence, and basically the total disconnect between what a doctor should do and what a doctor does. I was told this practice handles many patients that have chronic urinary tract infections. If that is the case, I would expect my doctor to have googled information prior to my visit not while I was sitting in front of him. I have given this practice every chance possible to help me, all to no avail. I don’t know their record as far as other infectious diseases but I will tell you that they are woefully incompetent when it comes to complex and frequent urinary tract infections.

When I leave appointment, I fell fully informed about my health and any treatment I might need. Dr Ahrens is very thorough and very caring and I really feel like I'm really being taking care of by him.
