List of Urology For Children's Reviews
When I delivered my son at Abington Hospital, the person on staff from Urology for Children refused to do a routine procedure on my newborn and said that I would have to wait til he was 6 months old and have him put under anesthesia. I called their office a few days later to try to schedule an appointment with a doctor to tell me if it was really necessary to wait since I was nervous about the anesthesia, but was told that I could not schedule an appointment since he was already evaluated in the hospital. I called CHOP and they were able to quickly give him an appointment for an evaluation. The CHOP doctor said he saw no reason not to do the procedure. He performed it a few days later with no issues.
Got to this appointment 20 minutes early and nearing the time of the appointment, reception tells us they didn't recieve the referral and authorization for treatment. I make a couple phone calls and the referral is going to be faxed over, reception says ok. They call me back up 10 minutes later to tell me I have to reschedule the appointment. I questioned why no one called me about not recieving the referral before the appointment and they said they did call and I didn't answer. Reception argues with me how the referral falls on me (which I would've been more understanding about if I was informed right away about the referral issue and the rest of this story didn't happen) and I didn't answer when they called. I inquire what phone number was on file and they had the wrong number in the computer, they then argue that whoever made the appointment gave them the wrong number (mind you at this point we've been there for 45 minutes, again why didn't anybody tell me right away that they didn't have the referral, and mind you at this point I called the insurance company and a fax was on it's way AND I got authorization number), reception was too lazy to reach out to my insurance company to verify the referral on file and too lazy to call the primary doctor themselves, I'm making all the phone calls)... married ten years with the same phone number for 12 years, my partner did not give them the wrong phone number, someone clearly put it in wrong, didn't even match any local area codes. Reception just threw their hands up which was as symbolic as how useless they were. Adding more detail, the appointment was made for a niece (which was stated when making her appointment), no one informed us to bring custody paperwork and this doctor office's own paperwork says "if parent or legal guardian" paperwork is not required. The kid is on our insurance policy. Reception had the nerve to ask across the waiting room if I could have the insurance company to also fax over custody paperwork. Insurance companies don't do that. I asked to appease reception and surprise! Insurance companies don't do that. I was beside myself with how reception handled a referral issue. It seems I should've read the reviews before using this provider to save myself some grief. Blatant active passivity. We've taken up the services of Shriners.
As much as Dr. Dean is great the receptionist in there are horrible. since I been going there maybe 2 women were nice. The other ones have had attitudes and messed up my sons appointment almost every time. They even mix my son and another person"s son appointment up. I live a hour away from there so it was such an inconvenient. My son was scheduled for surgery and they never put it in so they day of his we had to changed it and they act like it wasn't a big deal. Dr. Dean is great so if it wasn't for him I would of tried another location.
Horrible experience. Every appointment I had here with my son they threw us in an exam room right away and left us in there for 2 hours before we finally would see Dr. Packer. Dr. Packer was always late and always rushing. He didn't take his time evaluating my son nor did he communicate thoroughly before or after my son's surgery. When my son went to have his stent out a week post-op Dr. Packer just ripped it out quickly in the office. Later that day it was so swollen that pressure built up and the stitches popped and created a massive problem. My son's hypospadias is worse than before and never healed properly. Then Dr. Packer kept saying everything was fine even though we overheard him say to another doctor that my son would need a revision. When I came back for another follow up appointment Dr. Packer cancelled on me and after another 90 minute wait they had Dr. Valsera come in and tell me the bad news that my son peed out the fistula and would need multiple revisions! Dr. Packer couldn't even face me. I took my son to CHOP for a second opinion and thankfully I know he is now in good hands. I will never return to Urology for Children. They have horrible patient service skills. Are dishonest, rush everything, And communicate poorly.
Yea, whoever gave the 1 star review clearly doesn't know what they're talking about. My son is now 3 years old but I had to take him there only months after he was born because of hydronephrosis. As a new parent, the idea of my son needing surgery at such a young age was terrifying. We met with Dr. Dean and he could not have been more helpful. Not only was he able to set our minds at ease, he performed surgery on our little one while only a few months old and he's been fine ever since. I can not give enough stars to review this place. They kept up with checkups for him after the surgery. The staff were always helpful. So ignore the person who is tilted because the hours don't accommodate their needs. One would think your child's well being would be more important than whatever it is that requires after hours appointments. Keep up the amazing work UFC.
It's ridiculous how there's never late appointments. A Dr that is always booked up but supposedly only mornings. Like really, how many crap. It's shame that I can't find another place to go!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
