I have had health struggles for many years, and have learned how to talk to doctors to get my needs met. I'm very good at advocating for myself and for others. However, I was not able to advocate for myself with Dr Balwan because he refused to listen to me time and again, did not respond to my pleas for help, or listen to me. I tried desperately to tell him I had an infection; he and his team disagreed for weeks, until they finally listened to me. Once they saw the infection, they freaked out but then put me on the wrong antibiotic. I lingered for a month in and out of sleep, constantly calling to ask for help. They never ever responded. Finally my oncologist stepped in and swept me to the ER and apparently saved my life. I had a MRSA strain headed towards my lungs. I was in the hospital for a week, and it took 3 months to recover. I had to take medical leave from work.
