Emergency surgery. Afterward he spoke to my husband who was negatively affected by his bedside manner. I am for the first time in my life receiving mental healthcare to overcome the trauma of my own interactions with him in the hospital. Follow-up appointment at his office was just as bad. I would attribute my opinion as a reaction to medicine received during surgery (conscious sedation), but my husband didn’t have any medicine and has a strong opinion about Dr. Kalcich’s care as well. While I may be physically improved, my mental trauma is now having a negative affect on that as well.
Emergency surgery so I didn’t meet him until just before receiving sedation. My next experience was coming out of anesthesia and so traumatic I am in therapy for wishing I had not come out of surgery. I would consider my opinion colored by conscious sedation medication for surgery, but my husband was very unhappy with his bedside manner post-op and at follow-up visit as well, and he was of sound mind ...
Emergency surgery. My life was in his hands. The surgery went well. I am left so traumatized by interactions with him that I wish I had died instead. This seems hyperbolic to describe his bedside manner, and I would attribute my opinion to a reaction I had to the conscious sedation I had during surgery, but my husband—a very calm man with an understanding of medical practices and providers—was also negatively affected by his interactions with Dr. Kalcich. If you have any choice at all, I would recommend choosing someone else as a quality of life issue.
Terrible follow up! My daughter was in horrible pain after surgery. Kept telling my daughter after surgery, “You’re 18, you’ll be fine.” Then had to do another surgery due to infection. Kept telling her she would be fine when she told him about more pain. I demanded we fly out of SJRMC to Rust Medical in Rio Rancho. She was in severe septic shock! Took 3 weeks to save my daughter’s life. He doesn’t listen to his patients and has enough self confidence to kill someone.
Got turned away for a consultation for arriving a couple minutes late. Front desk stated, " The Dr. Won't see anyone a minute late" a little ridiculous.
Dr. Kalcich placed a chemo port 3 plus years ago. He had good attitude, and did explain the procedure well. It was out patient surgery, and he did see me before I was released. The oncologist staff said the port was placed well, and there has not been any problem with it. I am happy to report that I have had a full remission, and am now ready to have the port out.
My mother had surgery for cancer removal. It seems his surgical skills are fine, but his bedside manner leaves much to be desired. He was not communicative after the surgery when I asked the questions my mother had wanted me to ask. He was short and made it clear he did not want to answer my questions or spend any time with me; he seemed resentful that I would want to ask him anything.
Dr. Kalcich and Emergency med docs saved my life, literally. Thank you.
Dr Kalcich took great care when he took my son's gallbladder out. His staff was very professional and easy to approach. Dr Kalcich was caring and did an excellent job. My son went home the same day and healed fast. Dr Kalcich is easy to talk to, explains everything very well, and is a very caring and experienced surgeon. I would recommend him to anyone needing surgery.
Dr. Kalcich did an awesome job doing my surgery. I had a pilonodial cystectomy done and it went great. Prior to my pilonidal cystectomy surgery he gave me the pros and cons that are associated with the removal. I would highly recommend him and his team any day. Keep up the good work Doc!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
