My husband was a patient of Dr. Byrne for many years. He initially went to her for help with addiction. She wrote prescription after prescription FOR YEARS with absolutely no push toward getting off of the drugs altogether. As long as he had the money she would write what ever he asked for. Every single doctor he has seen since including a drug detox center (that detoxed him from the medicines and dosages that were prescribed) has stated they can not understand why anyone would prescribe the amounts she was writing. If he had not been on a anti-seizure medication in addition to what she prescribed he would be DEAD!!! BTW She is also under investigation for Medicaid FRAUD!
This place is a great new beginnings for me and my family! The care the reaching out and great place for recovery
Dr. Byrne has been caring for my aunt who is suffering from dementia. She is extremely kind, provides empathic guidance and is a great listener. I believe this is because she is both a psychiatrist and psychologist as well. This practice is upfront about not accepting insurance thus not having to cut off therapy before necessary and has the freedom to practice in the patients best interest rather than the way managed care demands. So if your review here is negative due to insurance issues or fees? All patients are made aware of this in advance so why complain afterwards? We have tried numerous doctors over this long journey and Dr. Byrne is definitely the best. Blaire Butler
I always feel well taken care of when I am here. My doctor and each staff member are always kind, helpful and warm. The sense that they are all here to help me is extremely comforting. They do their jobs very well, and I always leave feeling better off for having come.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Byrne for many years. She is always up-to-date on her psychiatric knowledge, and ensures that her practice is on the "cutting edge" of psychiatric treatments (including TMS). Any patients I have referred to her practice are quickly scheduled an appointment, and they love their experience there. Dr. Byrne is always willing to help colleagues, and guide us through the challenges of running (and growing) a private practice.
Excellent session with Dr Cheltenham. He was extremely insightful, encouraging, and engaging.
No waiting time. Im always seen at my scheduled appointment time.

We are so thankful to have found Dr. Byrne to treat our elderly aunt with dementia. Dr. Byrne has unconditional positive regard for both the patient and the family. She checks in with us on a regular basis and shows empathy for how dementia affects the family. Thanks to her, our aunts medication is finally appropriate and she continues to evaluate regularly by truly listening to our feedback. We strongly recommend her without reservation.
My overall service and care was good. Dr. Cheltenham was professional, and took time in thouroughly asking questions in order to conclude findings of my issues.
I am very happy with my choice of her practice!

Great worked with me well to save my life !
I wish that I had researched reviews of this practice months ago. Lets call it what it is a cashonly practice, with the top priority being financial profit. Dr. Byrne refuses to be under contract with any insurance agency so that she is able to charge patients for routine tasks that no insurance company would consider a valid, billable service, but rather the standard expectations of a treating physician. Many of the charges that appeared on my onfile credit card were unexpected, excessive, and do not have legitimate, reimbursable billing codes. Of the services which were coded and billable to insurance, the amounts charged far exceed any amount that would be contracted with an insurance company. As the wife of a physician, I certainly understand that doctors spend a large portion of their time handling matters that are not reimbursed by insurance. I also understand that insurance does not reimburse at the rates that would be conducive to the longago upperclass financial status of doctors. This practice model is focused on an attempt to return to that era, not on individualized treatment plans of patients. Some of the statements in the below response to Card Swiper have changed since written in 2011. However, if you do have questions regarding charges that appear on your credit card statement, they are discussed with you during your prepaid therapy session. Rather than receiving the therapy for which you paid, a disputed charge becomes a full session financial discussion initiated by your provider. The policies and/or practice model of Cognitive Psychiatry of Chapel Hill were not made clear to me until after nearly 6 months of treatment, despite my ongoing inquiries regarding billing. After being clearly informed of this structure, I simply could no longer afford to continue treatment at this office.
I have been seeing Dr. Byrne for almost two years now. The care I have received from her has been very helpful. I highly recommend her.
Never see this professional. She charges your card and provides no infrastructure. Does not bill your insurance and charges you for refills and doubles it after 5pm....Also will charge you for putting your folder in her cabinet. Notwithstanding her avarice in billing her advise and experience is mundane at best. AVOID
