List of Darin W Allred's Reviews
I researched and met with other surgeons before deciding on Dr. Allred for my rotator cuff surgery. For an operation that has only an 85% success rate, I wanted to give myself the best chance I could for success. And I found it. Dr. Allred was the perfect choice of surgeons for me, and I felt immediately comfortable with him as he described what this operation involved and the healing time needed afterward. I would totally recommend him and his staff for rotator cuff surgery, and at 3 months post op now, I have better shoulder mobility with no pain than before surgery - and this will only continue to improve. I am taking a couple more PT sessions, which greatly help also. Kudos to Dr. Allred and his staff - very glad I didn't wait more than the year I did in order to regain shoulder movement and be pain free.
Darin Allred has been the worst experience of my life. He told me to get a dye injection 6 days before he was going’s to do surgery for my labrum tear. Well apparently Dr. Allred didn’t know when my surgery was and it’s vitally important to wait 5-6 weeks AFTER the injection to perform surgery. If I had not stopped the radiologist from giving me the injection I would have had an infection from surgery and 100% would have lost my right arm. Furthermore, after the surgery, I never spoke with him until my post op which he told me to continue online Physical Therapy as kaiser had a 4-month waiting list for inperson Physical therapy. At our second post-op appointment, he downright refused to examine my shoulder when I asked and as I told him I wasn’t feeling better he told me “I guess we’re in the ‘oh sh*t’ stage huh?” Trust me, I have a recording of the whole (very short) appointment. Months go by and I request and MRI because I have not felt any better. He fights me every step of the way until he finally orders an MRI from me. The MRI comes back and I get a simple message back from him that says “Looks like your labrum is retorn. The surgery didn’t work.” That was a few months ago and now his office has gone radio silent with me. Zero follow up after telling me he “THINKS” the surgery didn’t work but he “couldn’t tell for sure.” Worst doctor and worst human I’ve ever encountered. Also, should be noted I am a healthy 23 year old male who paid over 3k out of my own pocket for this surgery. Now I’m in major debt and still in excruciating pain, but Dr. Allred couldn’t be bothered to care even when I told him this injury had caused me major depression and suicidal thoughts. So ya. Guess that’s that huh?
Extremely personable physician with great “bedside manner”. He is obviously very knowledgeable and explained my knee condition clearly and thoroughly, i.e., status and options now and in the future. I am grateful to have Dr. Allred as a trusted physician/ surgeon.
I had a great experience with Dr. Allred. I was comfortable from our first meeting which is saying a lot since he was my 4th second opinion on my arthritic shoulder. I am only 52 and docs have been telling me for 15 years that I needed a shoulder replacement. I was finally ready to be over the pain and I am so glad I had the surgery. Dr. Allred does shoulders almost exclusively. I have had an amazing recovery, ahead of schedule per my PT. My scar is healing much better than I expected.
I injured my shoulder and ended up with a frozen shoulder before I could have it repaired. Dr Allred recommended repair but was unable to do it timely and recommended another surgeon. This Dr refused to do the repair and after consulting with another surgeon who also recommended waiting 6 months to a year, I scheduled with Dr Allred when I could and after taking extra precautions, my shoulder is functional and I am very grateful that he was up to date on the research and got me working again.
I had a total shoulder replacement in 2013. My insurance is a closed system, but I had several Orthopedic Surgeons to choose from. I did my research and I chose Dr. Allred for his knowledge and commitment to his profession. I was extremely happy with my decision and I would see him again in a heartbeat! In addition to rating him 4 Stars, there were several aspects that convinced me that I had made the right choice. He explained my situation with the best possible solution. When asked, "If I were your wife would you recommend this surgery for her and he replied yes". That is what I needed to know! He carefully listened to my medical history and read me like a book. Due to allergies, he provided the medication that I requested and did so without hesitation. Because of that, my pain was controlled and without nausea and vomiting. I chose to be off pain killers within 2 weeks of my surgery and happily did so. He also took great care in preventing post anesthesia nausea and I was very grateful. This was my first major surgery. I believe that a patient has to take responsibility and do their part. It's easy to blame the caregiver. Some people will never be happy no matter what kind of care they received. Dr. Allred performed a successful surgery, Luckily, there were no complications. He exceeded my expectations in all of the rated categories....but, at the end of the day - those were just a bonus. It's the skilled surgeon that I am most grateful for.
A far cry from the standard of doctor care in today's society. This Doctor shows a genuine interest in the patient and is up front about outcomes. It was a pleasure someone capable of providing all the information needed to make a sound choice.
I suffered a bad ski injury that required surgery. I did some checking around outside of Kaiser and my friend recommended Dr Allred (also a sports surgeon)He did a great job. He has the reputation of being a great surgeon.
Dr. Allred was very clear and concise regarding my injury. I had fallen and tore my lcl, acl, and partially tore my pcl. Complicating matters, I was 20 weeks pregnant at the time, with a pre-existing blood clotting disorder. He discussed all the possibilities in terms of what would be good for me, what would be good for the baby etc. He contacted my ob/gyn right away to discuss the best course of treatment. My surgery was scheduled to be an outpatient procedure but when he was operating, he discovered problems with a nerve running down the front of my shin into my ankle. He took the time to call in a surgeon with my expertise in repairing nerves to fix that. He did not rush through anything and made sure that everything was done correctly. Baby and I are doing fine.
Dr. Allred was kind, sensitive and helped me to dispel my fears. He did my surgery quickly and proficiently. Responded quickly when I phoned in after the surgery. His nurse was lovely, made me feel like part of the family. I best of all almost back to normal and no scars! If you have Dr. Allred follow his instructions for a healthy recovery.Thank you Dr. Allred.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
