Dr is kind and considerate and shows concern for ME!

Went to Dr Mehta for a second opinion on the need for a bronchoscopy - a surgical procedure. Dr Mehta agreed with the first pulmonologist, Dr Khan, and I agreed to the procedure. Huge mistake on my part! The result of the procedure was available online before Dr Mehta followed-up with me. When I read the result, it stated that a certain necessary test would not be performed on the sample taken during the surgical procedure unless the doctor ordered the test within five days. I called Dr Mehta's office four times leaving messages for him to call me or to notify the lab to do the necessary additional test. Dr Mehta did not return my call until it was too late to conduct the additional culture test. And then he told me that the hospital orders the tests from surgical procedures, not him! I always understood that the doctor is the captain of the ship in a surgical suite. Perhaps not the case at Mountain View Hospital - a whole other bad experience. I fired Dr Mehta (he wasn't interested in knowing why) and Dr Khan, and decided to go to National Jewish Health (NJH) for care of my diagnoses. NJH is one of the leading clinics in the country for certain pulmonary diseases. At NJH, I learned that the surgical procedure - a bronchoscopy - was completely unnecessary! It took a respiratory therapist 20 minutes to get the same sample that Mehta obtained during the bronchoscopy, and ultimately, all the necessary tests were conducted. I now have definitive results and the exact diseases (not general diseases) can be treated. I find it outrageous that two doctors recommended that I put myself through a risky, unnecessary surgical procedure! Why? My research indicates that any respiratory therapist could have gotten what was needed for the culture testing, but doctors don't get to bill for surgical procedures when respiratory therapists do the work outside of a surgical suite. Furthermore, I'm astounded that Medicare agreed to such an unnecessary surgical procedure before attempts were made by a respiratory therapist. Shameful conduct by the doctors and Medicare! We should all be diligent and take active roles in the management of our health care. After all, doctors are only people.

Dr. Mehta is extremely kind, thorough and goes above and beyond. He took the time in between hospital rounds to call me personally and discuss my situation. He makes sure get to the root of the problem to fix it vs just throwing medications at it. Would absolutely recommend him to anyone.
