Shirley A Anain's Online Review Report Card

I first visited Dr. Anain when I was 17 for a breast reduction. She was very nice but insurance denied me because she wouldn't take enough grams of breast tissue off. I am now 20 and visited her again to see if my breasts have changed in size so that I could get the surgery. The first thing she says to me upon walking in the room is "Well you've gained 30 pounds since I last saw you, what happened?", in an incredibly demeaning tone. She then ridiculed me about my explanation of past restrictive eating disorders that led to a damaged metabolism, hence making it hard to maintain weight now. She told me to lose 20 pounds and then come back in. While I am slightly overweight for my demographics, it has never been an issue when going under anesthesia for other surgeries I have had. I left the appointment sobbing and felt like I have taken major steps back on my body dysmorphia and eating disorder recovery. I don't know why it was so shocking to her that I am not the same size as my teenage self who was deep in an eating disorder. I will never be going back to her, & would not recommend. Body size should not equal the level of respect a patient gets.

Dr Shirley A. Anain was extremely condescending and rude. Her demeaner is not welcoming or pleasant. She talked down to me and was not helpful. She made a comment about me having bad insurance. When I told her that I have an HSA and cost was not an issue she said "good for you." If you would like a provider that is warm, caring with a good bed side manner, I encourage you to keep looking because this is not the doctor for you.

Dr. Anain preformed my breast reduction surgery six years ago. Apparently she and her team did not thoroughly discuss possible future complications with me, because here I am today, finding out I now need a full mastectomy to correct a circulation issue that has been slowly getting worse over the years, an issue caused by the initial breast reduction. I've spent months in excruciating pain, had to have biopsies done to make sure it wasn't cancer...and I'm being told now that Dr. Anain should have known this was a possibilty based on the fact that I had severe necrosis on the tissue after the surgery was done. When I asked about this years ago, she shrugged it off and said it was fine. If this had been addressed sooner, I may not be losing my breasts at age 30. Thanks, I trusted you.

She made the process so simple and I always felt comfortable.

Just sent home with reading materials. Never offered one picture of her work and unfortunately, I trusted that I didn't need to. I am disfigured and disappointed. BEWARE.

Dr. Anain is the best, and her staff is outstanding. I am very pleased with my results (abdominoplasty). I was given realistic expectations prior to this major surgery which helped to prepare me for a successful recovery.

I saw Dr. Anain for abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Wish I had done this sooner! For one year prior to surgery I purposefully lost 35 lbs so that my body would be at its ideal weight. Dr. Anain explained the procedure and what to realistically expect right after surgery-- this was no walk in the park! Because of her detailed explanation and her caring staff, I was prepared for post-surgery drains, care and pain. I knew I was in good hands with Dr. Anain. I am six-plus months out and am SO HAPPY with the results! Do your homework, understand that you are having major surgery, listen to the doctor and follow instructions and you'll have good outcomes.

Wow and wow! Professional knowledgeable care from all levels of service. From the front end staff to check out. Prompt on time service from a doctor who takes the time to listen and educate. Most importantly the results are amazing. She even fixed that horrible C-section scare and leveled me out. Kudos Doc for being one of Buffalo best in your field.
