List of South Oaks Hospital's Reviews
amazing staff was great
I understand everyone's experiences are different my child has been here sadly more than once. Our first experience was not the best, which is why I only did 3 stars. The first doctor was not communicating anything with us. I was hunting down the doctor to get updates etcetera. Her last 2 times she had a different team from her very first time and both of these recent visits have been the same team and they're amazing. Maybe a staffer here or there on the floor I'm not the biggest fan of otherwise most of the staff is amazing. My daugther does not hold back and would immediately tell me if there was an issue. My interactions with them during my visits have also been great. Her team has been very communicative, helpful and THEY LISTEN. Again I don't want to undermine anyone's experiences in any of these reviews but I do have to say, the level of care provided for my child the last 2 times has been great. They do hold events that include the entire family which allows siblings and parent support groups.
.. no words. Don’t go please
I would give this facility a better rating but I was placed under the care of the counselor, Sonia. The grandiose persona and entitlement of this unprofessional character puts this oasis accredited facility to shame. Her lack of empathy, knowledge to addiction, and all around awareness to compassion in itself, strikes me as odd to see her in such a field where such qualities are required. She is combative with a patient when one is nearly timid and naive to early recovery and susceptible to relapse. If you choose to step foot in this outpatient, please seek the guidance of another counselor.
Evil, sick place. Made me worse. I still get nightmares from my hospitalisations there. This place is NOT LGBT FRIENDLY!!! They advertise themselves as having such care on their website, but I cannot stress the amount of homophobia and discrimination I faced as a teenager. Even from staff. I am tough and can tolerate places lagging behind in LGBT sensitivity. My issue is why would you advertise yourselves as being progressive when your employees collectively lack even basic sensitivity training? Why did your staff member allow a gay teenage boy to be harassed every single day for weeks without intervening? Why did I need to censor myself with shamed when I was at my lowest point in life? Why did I have to endure these things after being admitted for a botched suicide attempt because of bullying at school? Mentally ill people have a lot on their plate already, and many are poor/struggle with finance and legal documents. If this wasn’t the case, I have no doubt that so many people would pursue legal action against South Oaks.
Two years ago, I was forcefully admitted to South Oaks Hospital due to a psychiatric breakdown from Aripiprazole withdrawals. I was 16 years old at the time. The moment I arrived, I was having a panic attack because I have trauma behind being forced into situations. The staffs solution to this, instead of attempting to calm me down, was to lock me in a room by myself for 6 hours on end. Then, I was told to go to my room and “muffle my cries with my pillow”. They prescribed me 150mg of Quetiapine, and made me take it every night. Months after being released, I found out that 150mg is never a safe starting dose for Quetiapine. They gave me 2x the safe dosage. The staff woke me up every morning to take my blood. Myself and my mother informed them that I do not take injections/needles without lidocaine. They proceeded to still wake me up every day continuing to attempt taking my blood, which I never let them do because they would not provide me the resources I needed. It took me two years to leave this review because I am still processing and healing from the trauma this facility has left me. Please, I beg everyone to never send your child here. It will mess them up for life.
Superb staff, true professional doctors no complaints from my part.
Incredibly rude manager in charge. I believe her name is Brittany? She works at the front desk in the back. I came to visit someone and because of my appearance and looking young for my age; I was disregarded when trying to ask questions with my family when trying to check on a loved one. I was told to be quiet and that they didn’t want to speak to me. I had not interrupted her: and approached her kindly with my family and was the only one treated this way, though my family agreed she was incredibly rude. As someone in my older twenties who has been primarily in charge of communicating with all other hospitals and professionals involved in this painful process; I was highly offended with her behavior. The other staff; even if the truth was harsh; were kind and made my family feel relieved. Where as the manager made me worry more for all of my family involved. We both understood that the consent form hadn’t been signed and had questions proceeding this; but her attitude was atrocious. The staff at the front desk is kind as well as the nurses. I advise anyone else with questions about how their system works or visitation rules, that you ask any other person working there.
We were calling daily to see if we could see someone for out daughter, no one would answer, we were told to call back later etc...finally our daughter's school was able to set up an initial intake interview. Our daughter literally had a break down during the intake so they know this is serious. Now we have been waiting a month or more for a follow up, call back, anything PLEASE we just want to get our daughter some help, why is it so hard...the daily meltdowns are too getting to much...please help
My son I quick to express any dislikes about anything and everyone. This place changed him with full improvement. He always told me how nice they were and the handling with structure helped him understand the difference between his daily responsibilities and knowing that the luxury he likes is to be earned: a book can available but television is not a necessity. They found the proper medication for him and my baby has been doing exceptionally well. They did a full 180 with his mental health and behavior. Whomever had a bad experience was probably at a different unit. As far as my experience I will say they helped my baby and he has no complaints ( he will always make it known if anyone messed him)

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
